Hi everyone, I have a Stryker 955hpc that I use to monitor and talk on 10 meters with while my other radios are monitoring the other HF bands, and the 2m/440 . Today I turned it on and there's no audio coming out of the speaker ... either internal or external ... I tried both. It has transmit because I keyed it up and identified and could hear it on my 897 . And it has receive, because when I keyed up my 897 I could see the Stryker's meter bar moving. There's just not any sound coming out of the speakers . Nothing has happened to the radio, it just sits on my desk. And when it's not in use for a long time, there's no antenna hooked up to it, and it's disconnected from the power supply. I have no idea what may have made it do this, so I thought I might mention it here and see if anyone else might know what's going on with my radio, or if anyone knows how to fix it. Thank you in advance.

I would plug in an external speaker to test the radio speaker. After that double check the radio settings, maybe the squelch is wide open or something simple.

Which version 955 is it?

A few years back there was a Stryker service bulletin about a similar issue. It was a plug socket on the main board where the wires plug in from the faceplate. Remove, clean and reinstall. A minor corrosion issue.

Just a thought.

Mine doesn't hear on sideband anymore. :( Is there a link available for the service bulletin? All I find is the service manual and operator manual online.

So I looked inside of it, nothing looks burnt out ... which I expected because it was unplugged and disconnected from everything. It has just been sitting here for a month or two ... and it was working as it should the last time it was on. I checked it with and without an external speaker . I checked the speaker connections and they're all still connected ... and I sprayed every plug inside of it , and there's still no sound coming out of it.

This radio worked fine the last time it was on, and just simply died while sitting on my desk , not being used, or even on for a month or two. I've never ... in the 30 years plus , that I've been a radio operator ... ever seen something like this happen before.

These are Chinese‑made, just like almost everything else these days. I’ve had a few Chinese radios work fine one day and quit the next. Granted, those were cheap ham HTs and not an overpriced export model, but it does happen.

Looks like the speaker is switched in and out with a mosfet rather than directly with the mic switch as in the older radios. Not sure where that mosfet gets its signal, but it would be interesting to see if it is present. I assume the mic switch somehow controls this mosfet, just not sure whether it does so directly or through a microprocessor. Could be a dirty RX switch.

I would be tempted to give the speaker ground and see if there is audio present (assuming the mic switch checks out).

I agree with you, in fact I actually have a few Ten Tec's & Heathkit's here that I generally use for HF bands . I was using the Stryker for monitoring 10 meters, and my FT-897d for 2m/440 . I usually only like to have radios that are American made, or made in Japan ... basically because China has no honor in their production . It's all over priced , low quality production ... and no care for their products, or their customers... just finish it and get as many out as possible. Which is exactly why I have a Stryker that I bought new , that's only a few years old, never been mobile ... that just died for absolutely no reason .

If you're wanting to dump the Stryker, let me know. I'll take that chinese radio off your hands!
