I’ve got a version 1 Stryker 955 that suddenly started acting like the RF gain is closed completely off. It transmits fine and is receiving when I talk over a handheld but with the squelch all the way open on am or SSB I barely hear static in the speaker . The RF gain control isnt working when I turn it and it’s like it’s been turned all the way counter clockwise. Anybody ever had this happen? I tried unplugging the wires and spraying contact cleaner in the plugs as I’ve seen where that’s a known issue of other problems but it didn’t change anything.

Any chance it was connected to a base antenna during a storm? Sounds more like a fault in the receiver's first antenna-amplifier stage than the control itself.
The test we use for RF Gain controls is to turn the knob full clockwise, and then bridge the tip of a screwdriver across the center lug and clockwise lug. If the control is not completing that circuit, this will bring it briefly to life. Until you remove the screwdriver tip.
