So a friend who recently got his ticket has been plagued with programming & HF antenna problems ever since purchasing his FT-897. Bad G5RV, two bad coax connections in his run, etc... Nightmare. Yesterday he finally put up a basic dipole on a 1:1 balun, gets the feed line sorted out, then gets on the air after 60 days of being limited to VHF/UHF with the rig.
Wouldn't you know it, but he ends up on 28.425 where he gets an earful from "Tango Victor Zulu". "Get off the frequency, you're wasting my time if you're not a 10/10 member..." He's excited that SOMEBODY finally heard him, but goes back to the band plan in his TECH book to see what "10/10" is and to see if he'd violated some kind of rule, then calls me asking what "10/10" is and why he can't use .425 "Do I need to join or buy something to talk on that frequency?"
Way to roll out the welcome wagon there 10/10...
Perhaps the "club" needs to consider who they have on the air "representing" them...
