OK, I got my TS 50 and I've got d5 clipped. Now I need to know what antenna to use to work 10, 11, 20 meters, mobile in a big truck. I know the screwdriver would probably be best, but $400 is a little steep for me. Any suggestions on antenna and mounting would be appreciated. Thanx.

For the mic gain try them both and see how it goes. I use low for SSB and high for AM.

I would start with the mic for your intermittent TX audio problem.

Paul,

Contact Kenwood, there was a recall on the TS50's for a faulty coax connector on the radio. They will take care of it for you.

Anyone know of a problem in the TS-50, that would make the rx drop off in SSB. I thinks its a loos connection because if you Tap it on the side of the front panel, it starts working. I have not been able to Isolate just where.

Any help would be appreciated..

Roger,

It is the faulty connection I spoke of in the above post. Contact Kenwood and they will fix it for you, no charge I think. Hope that helps.

what is a ts50?

Hello Paul, how do you like your TS-50? I am considering purchasing a kenwood of some sort in the very near future. I would use it stricktly as a base.

Take care, Hossless<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)">

10-4 Hoosier, I hear the audio is awsome on the Kenwood line. They also seem to be quite a bit less expensive (the older ones), than the Icoms and the Yaesus. I just don't know a thing about the true ham rigs.

Thanks for the comeback, Hossless

PS, won't have alot of $ to spend either... Will be selling my 100amp power supply, Galaxy99 and X-Force X400 as a package locally for $700 bucks. It's with that $ I'll be getting a ham rig.

F.Y.I. :

Well, after much research and many questions, I was able to find an answer to the drop out problem on SSB RX.

One of the Regulars on Kenwood Yahoo message bd, suggested checking for an intermittent DDS unit. and after removing both DDS units and reflowing all the solder, the rig is up and working great.

It appears that SMT components are notirious for poor contacts, and replacement of the DDS unit is the 'normal' cure, but resoldering will usually do the trick.
