Someone told me, you can make a TV antenna into a cb antenna. Is this true or is just pulling my coax.

Yes, I have done it before...you get a good antenna tuner and hook both legs of the 300 ohm twin-lead to the "Wire" output on the back of the tuner. Run a ground wire from the tuner ground terminal to a good ground . Key the radio up and tune for lowest SWR.

Bingo, it works! I really have done it!!

Now what it is REALLY doing is using the wire that feeds the TV antenna as a long wire, but it will work. MAKE SURE YOU UNHOOK IT FROM THE TV FIRST!!!!

datsun66,

Well, sort of, but not really. A TV antenna, in it's self, is much too short to work well at 27 Mhz. But, as suggested by others, an approriate tuner can make almost anything work as an antenna. Not necessarily a very good one, but workable. The tuner makes the whole thing, feed line and TV antenna, into an antenna. I'm sure you can imagine the problems that can cause though (RFI, etc.)...

Yes Doc is right, you sure do not want to run any "Additional"power with a set up like that. I do think someone was tugging on your big toe LOL, But for real, I did do just that for a little over a week at My in-laws house one time. We were having to stay there, I wanted to talk on the radio and no antenna. I was to lazy to put anything up and that was the easiest thing to do. It worked rather well, I was able to talk to all of the local`s in town with just the 2510 and a tucker 300 watt tuner. None of the neighbors complained,(probably never would have figured out were it was coming from if they wanted to anyway) and the TV`s in the house were on cable, never bothered them, although it did get into the phone in the living room.

Good short term solution to a temporary problem....but I would not put much effort into it as a "REAL" antenna.

I do have to say this tho.. I have had a lot of fun with a little radio and a tuner, just trying to see what one can talk on, you would be suprised!

Jeff;

I saw an antenna that pluged into a wall socket and the thing worked. Some how the 110 volts was not connected to the radio in anyway. Just goes to show you on what someone can come up with.
