voltage goes up when keyed

normal voltage to car is 13.8 to 14.0

when i key mic, voltage goes up, when i unkey, voltage goes down, shouldnt it be the other way around?

i wired the positive direct to battery and ground it to frame near radio

90% chance RF is getting into the digital volt meter. Install a .01 uf ceramic disk capacitor directly across the back of the meter terminals and it should stop. If another volt meter placed directly across the battery terminals or lights getting brighter confirms the voltage increase, you have a defective voltage regulator or RF is getting into its voltage sensing wire to the battery.

It's RF getting into the meter.

Use an analog meter to verify. Digital meters, even some really well-designed and built ones, tend to get a bit insane in any RF field.

got it fixed, ithanks for all the reply's, it was something stupid............

bad grounding, when i pulled out the unit, the ground was only barely making contact to the screw, remove it and re-tighten it and the problem went away
