Wanting to get into ham

I have always wanted to get my license and get started in ham. I have heard that you can get a certain license without having to learn the dot dash thing. Could someone tell me how to go about this and what bands does this license include. Thanks

The class of license you're referring to is called the Technician class. With it, you can use all the ham VHF/UHF bands, which basically is from 6 meters (50mhz) on up. The test for Technician really isn't hard. There's a book you can get by Gordon West that has all the test questions with answers and explanations. There's also practice tests online at www.eham.net and www.qrz.com that you can take repeatedly until you're confident you can pass. It's definately worth doing!
