I ran a 6 channel General CB in 1971 and it did not have a light bulb like that nor have I ever see and old tube radio with a bulb that didn't serve the purpose of illuminating something.. I see no purpose for it in that location. Maybe it was user added to shine up through that hole for some reason.
The fact it is not in a socket tells me it is likely user added. Perhaps it is a 6 volt lamp in series with a 6 volt filament. Maybe the former owner subbed out a tube with a different filament voltage. That guess is as good as any.
