What Is The Purpose Of This Lightbulb...

Could be to keep the internal side warm to keep it from drifting on side band. The light bulb itself is it located near any of the crystals?

Its a old tube AM only cb.....and it gets plenty warm from the tubes.

The light is in the back of the radio.

I ran a 6 channel General CB in 1971 and it did not have a light bulb like that nor have I ever see and old tube radio with a bulb that didn't serve the purpose of illuminating something.. I see no purpose for it in that location. Maybe it was user added to shine up through that hole for some reason.

Where is it at in the circuit?

Old school way of having an in rush limiter, looks like it is in series with the cap. Just a guess.

The fact it is not in a socket tells me it is likely user added. Perhaps it is a 6 volt lamp in series with a 6 volt filament. Maybe the former owner subbed out a tube with a different filament voltage. That guess is as good as any.

Could it be the spot where you can wire in the bull horn speaker.....I know in the manual I downloaded it talks about wiring a speaker?

looking at the schematic there looks to be a bulb with a cap across in the center tap of mains transformer

That pic has me curious if my Super MC-11A has that bulb in it...I think I am going to go take the case off and have a look-see.

i have seen that in some old tube radios, it was used as some kind of fuse, for some circuit i guess...........73s midnight special

Mine does not have the bulb in that spot....just a cap.

My old FT-101E has one near the antenna connector. It was used as a fuse to protect the front end.
