I still have a new in the plastic owners manual, let me dig that out here in the next day and read to see. As I recall it did something to the receive.
Think it is the same as the 'GNF' or 'Galaxy Noise Filter' of the Galaxy DX-959.
Supposed to change the signal-to-noise ratio
In the "GNF" mode,
you are in CB operation but the Galaxy Noise Filter (GNF) is engaged.
This is a special noise filter that de-emphasizes audio high frequency
response in order to increase the signal-to-noise ratio of weak signals.
While you will notice a dramatic reduction in the "rushing" sound when
this filter is activated, it does not have much effect on the signal-to-noise
ratio of strong signals.
Please advise me to what is a good replacement mic for my SR-497HPC... Answer: 497 is "wired like Cobra", so many choices available. That radio does not need a power mic, so purchase a stock "coffin style" mic with a decent cord, like the ones that Astatic uses. The Superstar DM-507 is my go-to. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3050474478...adANq91JSiEEnz8EGqPJRBloTgEyaVsBoCtoMQAvD_BwE $12.99 + .99 cent shipping.
