Winning awards without competition

To use an overloaded cliche, it is what it is.

The certificates are nice. I have many with only a select few in frames on the wall. Some probably say "First place, Kansas section", etc. and when one looks at the results, there were no other entries. As I see it, that's on the other hams in the section who weren't interested enough to operate or submit their log, not me.

I have all kinds of contest awards but I don't do anything with them. Just leave them in the envelopes. Some were big efforts some not. Mostly I just get involved in them to have fun and see what I can work.

The thing is that you never know ahead of time who is going to do what in a contest. Sometimes there may be other entries in that category and sometimes not. It doesn't mean that the guy that won didn't put his whole heart into his efforts. They will send a contest certificate as it can keep people interested in participating. For someone who has no awards yet they can be fun to get.
