WTB: CPI with dead EPROM

This might come as a suprise to you but there is no one sitting on a stock pile of NOS, Open Box, or gently used units that we all go to when we want one.

Almost all of the ones I have seen in the last 20 years have been on Ebay or Craigs List or the like.

If you run across some one with a 20-30 of them in a collection your not likely to seperate them from them as hard core collectors fixated on one brand or one model are not usually in the market to sell their precious gems! When they die you will either see their stuff at an estate auction or on ebay or once purchased from an estate auction then on Ebay! If it has any value especially if it is listed on worth point you will see it on Ebay!

Be prepared to get into a bidding war!

Yet if I want something and never make any attempt to get it I'll just be wishing.

I'm not looking for a collector's quality unit here. What I would expect is something that was abused and the EPROM blown up because either voltages were applied to the incorrect pins or someone forgot to observe ESD precautions when attempting a channel mod. IOW, a golden screwdriver special.

Now, yes, most likely this post will fade into obscurity and never amount to anything. But I figure that my chances are better on this site than pretty much anywhere else.

Looking like a scam as of now. I'll give it a few more days, then I'll post names and email addresses of everyone involved, including a new user on this site.

Yep, scam. Didn't gamble more than I could afford to lose, but still annoying. Unfortunately the user who sent me a DM on this site must have deleted their account as I can no longer find the original message to get that username.

I have filed a report with the payment processor that was used. Don't think the money will be coming back, but at least they know someone on their system is possibly involved in fraudulent activity.

I'll give the payment processor a week to complete their investigation in case they prompt the "seller" to actually deliver. After that I'll post the email addresses used here as a warning for others. Unless, of course, the admins tell me that's a bad idea.

So the emails the fraudsters used were:

marcuschristopher283@gmail.com for the main contact using the (obvious) name Marcus Christopher.

bigredtrucker@gmail.com for payment using the name Michael Ray.

Leaving this here until the mods pull it down or the radio shows up. But I don't think the radio will be showing up.
A few days ago, I was contacted by a scammer in my PM's here, in response to a WTB post.

This was from a new user, who said a third party had what I was looking for. I was told to email scottblacke88@gmail.com. A google search turned up some posts from a different forum, where they responded to WTB posts with that gmail address.

Beware WWDX'ers.....the scammers are lurking here.

If you haven't already and the scammer hasn't deleted the account, get the username to one of the mods. I failed to preserve that piece of evidence before the initial contact DM's were deleted.

This user never got very far because SL spotted the scammer and I removed the user.
In the case of TM the user self deleted his account.
They had zero posts on the forum, only direct messages.
Unfortunately it's not uncommon for these people do this all day long playing the odds.

Buyer beware

It already was deleted, but I was able to search again with what I remembered and found one of the hits. Same verbiage almost verbatim as the DM I was sent.
