I run a ts 667 v ( 1x4 2789) in my last 3 f150s. My current is a 2013, with a wilson 5000 mag mount. My radio is a grant xl basically stock with variable power. I run 250 bird on am 300 ish on ssb when the box is on. I have more power than ears any more would be a waste. Jmho

Sounds like a bad solder joint in the transmit section I am not clear on the tuning issue. I would bet you have 2 issues.
What power supply are you using?
Early grant xls were exactly the same as a philly 148. The later XLs and LTs are slightly more evolved versions of the platform. The XL is the pinnacle of true cb's imho.
None of the 8719 mobiles are AM monsters.
I have bought a nib grant xl for 200 and a nib lt for 100 in the last year. I overpaid for the xl because the ham who had it had kept it in his house. I love the XLs and LTs.
