Viagra blue dot 'b' board problems

Lester's answer to the black/green wire is this.
"The black and green wire connector go to the 10Kc switch. The loose switch and connector are for the 10Kc switch.
You can either use a switch already in the radio by soldering the loose two pin connector to it (after removing the wires) or use the loose switch in the kit.
One the band switch, you can unplug the pre-wired one from the board and use your ANL/NB switch by plugging it into the board."
I'll post this in the 'Ranger TRE-936ffc' thread also

I talked with www.radiopartssupply.com about the problems I've had with my Galaxy Viagra B board problems. They confirmed what James of Star Electronics and Communications Delaware's CB Radio and Amplifier Sales and Repair - Home and CB Radio - DTB Radio's Front Page said about changing the value of R133 down to a 10 ohm resistor or less in order to get sufficient voltage to operate the Viagra board properly. I had also ordered a Ranger 120 channel kit for my Ranger TRE-937ffc along with factory replacement knobs,a three position switch that will go on the talkback volume position for changing bands, and a on/off/volume dual pot switch to relocate the talkback volume control in the same position as the mic gain and be able to turn the talkback off as well. The Ranger 120 channel kit has a SMT board and IC(s). More if a plug and play than Lester's or the Viagra kit.

I'll have more when I get the Ranger kit.

Or you can do away with all this silly non-sense, and tap the PLL. No more issues. I've had so many people bring their radios to me that had the Viagra boards in them that had problems.... I tapped the PLL and haven't had a radio come back since with channel issues. :)

~Cheers~

I don't like the idea of flipping two switches to do that. I'm still going to take the jumper bypass I soldered across R133 and solder low value resistor parallel with R133 to get 10 ohms. That's to get the voltage down closer to 8 volts. If the problem persists then I might do something else. I'm getting my TRE-936ffc set up with a Ranger SMT channel kit and use that for my mobile. I'm thinking about selling my CRE-8900.

Agreed!
One might not get as many freqs as using the Viagra boards, but cutting the P5 & P6 wires and installing two SPST switches between those cuts works with no fuss. Adds 14 lowers and 26 uppers IIRC. Cost is a measly $4. Then jumping R114 will get it to slide ~16kc's after the unlock. But he will need a bench-grade freq counter to align the freqs. He would have to do that anyway. Money better spent there - IMO . . .

The Galaxy DX-959's Viagra board goofed again. I just swapped out the Viagra 'B' board for the experimental SMT Viagra 'B' board I ordered from www.radioshopsupply.com . They're an authorized Ranger parts and service center. It now shows the right frequency. Maybe I'll pop the cover on the older board and check it out.
