Two days ago on Easter Sunday I decided to see who was on the CB on channel 38 LSB. About 30 seconds after I turned on the radio - Motormouth Maul “The Voice of the Central Coast of California” pegged my meter. He came in real loud and clear.

I have never heard him before. I’m located in Virginia and when I heard him say where he was calling from I thought it was kinda cool that I could hear him. I got online and looked him up and decided to send him an email. I told him that I could hear him on 38 LSB and he replied that it was an imposter and that he didn’t “run” 38 LSB. I sent him an email back asking what channel he does run and he responded that he is on channel 6.

Here’s the issue… I know for a fact that I picked him up on channel 38 LSB and have since read on these forums that others have as well. Why would he say he doesn’t transmit on 38 LSB unless he doesn’t know that he is bleeding over the channels that bad?

Also, how in the world is he getting away with this? Seriously, if the FCC leaves this guy alone what is the point of having 11 meter rules at all?

Maybe I’m paranoid, but I’m afraid to do any modifications at all to my radio. My CB radio (Galaxy 959) is 4 watts am and 12 watts SSB and not a bit more.

So, tell me fellas. How is “The Voice of the Central Coast of California” blowin’ my doors off here in Virginia and not getting his radio equipment confiscated by the FCC?

Well, all I will say,is about 2 years ago, he was transmitting on 28.380 A.M. when he was on CB Channel 28.

One nice, non threatening E-Mail from me, explaining that to him and he fixed his "junque".

There is a possibility, that what you heard on 38 LSB was actually a recording and NOT really him.

Road Squawker - I had not considered that it could have been a recording, but if it was a recording the person would have still had to have been using a serious setup. With that in mind, I still think it was him just based off how strong the signal was.

:ROFLMAO:
If you want CB rules you need to back in time. While there is some enforcement when there are complaints made, in general, CB is a rule free free-for-all.
It's been that way for decades.
Even with complaints, CB was/is so ignored congress passed laws allowing states to prosecute CB problem makers themselves.

space cowboy – While I certainly don’t think we need any more rules from the Federal Government I think since the rules do exist that the FCC would go after the most serious offenders. I would think that MMM would be a big target for the FCC and yet he seems to go untouched. I just don’t understand why HE goes untouched when every so often the FCC will bust some little CB shop for selling modified CB’s or noise toys.

For the Record – I’m not knocking MMM for having this type of transmitting power. I think most of us wish we could legally run a radio like that, but at the same time understand why we can’t.

Think about it for a minute. If there were only a few dozen people in the country that could afford the equipment MMM has and they stayed on air then they would completely rule the 11 meter band. That would ruin it for the rest of us.

Maybe what I’m trying to say is that I think he is being disrespectful to everyone else by running that much power. Personally, I try to be very respectful of others and would never do what he is doing. Like I said, this is the first time I’ve heard him, but he took over the channel I use to talk to my CB friends on my day off. Apparently he does this a lot so I just don’t understand how he has gotten away with it for so long.

never heard him on ssb but have heard people playing recordings of him on ssb

I think he is one of the few on am that I really haven't heard bleading over 10 channels, like others on AM, he may have some power but it seems he keeps a clean running station and had a huge beam , 60 or 80 foot long horizontal/vertical running a circular pattern,, but I think It got destroyed by weather,, not sure what he replaced it with..

Well, all I can say is that he really likes his radios. Anyone that puts that much time, effort and money into a system like that is a true radio fanatic.

I just wish he’d point his antenna toward Mexico and knock out their radios on a regular basis. I pick up the dirtiest most incoherent sound from Mexico all the time that bleeds all over the place. If he could get them to stop transmitting up here – MMM could save us a lot of aggravation. Then again, I would not want him to start some kind of international CB war.

You must be new to the CB world.

"strong rumor" has it, he is running a stack of 4 6 element monobanders.

Captain Kilowatt – I don’t have a lot of experience with CB radio, that’s for sure. I’ve used one for about 10 years and I don’t do any type of work on them or anything, I just use them to talk to people locally and when I go on road trips. I had one in my truck, but that was mainly to get load information at a shipper.

I don’t use amps or mod my radio at all. It’s a stock, legal radio. I’m not really sure how to take your comment. It’s almost like you are saying that after a while, I’ll get into amps and mods for CB radio, too. I’ve always been of the mindset that if I wanted more power than my little stock Galaxy 959 can dish out then I’d get a HAM license. I know the FCC is being ridiculous about a lot of the 11 meter rules, but I still believe in following those rules or going the HAM operator route.

I feel as soon as I were to mod my CB in the slightest I’d have someone from the FCC outside wanting to check my “station”. Perhaps I think this way because I am new and don’t have much experience with CB’s.

I know a lot of folks around me use small amps to get out a little better in these mountains, but what MMM is doing is on a whole different level.

Ive only heard him on ch 6 or 28. The equipment he uses doesn't transmit on SSB so my money says it was a recording that you heard. Even if you install his board in a radio with SSB it only works on AM.

The FCC let's him and others get away with things like this because they have more important things to do with their limited resources. Interference on the CB and amateur bands isn't the highest priority.

I remember hearing him talk about this years ago. That was back when he stopped using a galaxy radio and started using a cobra 29. Got to love those export radios.

Yeah, he was actually embarrassed about it, I remember him sayin something to the effect of "I can't brag on my CB audio and be on 10 meters too"
