I recently was given a Cobra2k, and it has this kit installed. Can you identify it? I've searched and found little info. The board has a toggle switch wired to it. I can take more pics if needed. Thanks for the look.fm2.jpg

The CA3065 chip is a big hint. It's a FM IF and detector.

The two 4016 chips are to select where the transmit and receive audio should be directed for FM transmit and receive. This permits a simple toggle switch to redirect the receiver audio, transmit audio and S-meter with only 2 or 3 wires on the switch.

Of course, the printed legend "FM-2" is also highly suggestive.

Yes, my suspicions were it being a Lou Franklin kit. Since I can't find any real data on the board, I will be removing it. Thanks for the help guys.

yep, just found an old CBC catalog. It is indeed a Lou Franklin board.
I should have checked before posting.

The locals here are a bunch of channel six competitors. Typical of New Orleans. No actual QSO's except for the occasional radio check. 38 LSB is more civilized, but it too is becoming competitive.

I would like to have that board please, or do you still have it ?

Anyone know the best way to go about adding FM to a Cobra 2000GTL with specifics and details or can refer me to someone or which mobile to take out FM and use that ?

Much appriciated in advance, Retro

I would try an Ebay store,

https://www.ebay.com/str/charleythreecheri

Cheri, the store owner ran a CB supply with her dad in the 80s and 90s. Her dad's handle was "Charley3", and he used it as the store name for a while.

Nothing like that is listed, but it's the sort of thing he sold back in the day. If you sent a polite note to Cheri through Ebay asking about "FM conversion kits" you might score.

Or might not.

People stopped asking about these so long ago that anything you find will be decades old, most likely.

Give Cheri a try. The worst she can say is no.

I remember Charley3 and his bright yellow flyers/mailers with his motto "If you need a friend-I'll be there". A really nice guy too! First time I talked to him he acted like we were long time friends. 30 minutes or so later I placed an order for a couple of JB18's (I think was the model?) I was curious. I had the JB12's, 76's 150's 200's etc. It had a chrome front face, black 3 sided cabinet cover, a 6550 tube and came with a metal plate "Black Cat" logo to stick on it (and a few extra ones-that are around here somewhere).

That is the JB-?? right above the Browning 180 I got from Charley around 1990 or so. This is also the Mark III that had the transmit mod on a pull switch added to the mode switch. Added 23 more channels in all modes. It was pretty slick.

Okay, so I realize this is a super duper old thread but I was wondering if anyone had info on installing the Lou Franklin FM-2 board. I found one in a 2000 parts radio, A few of the jumper wires are loose. I'd like to try to get it working on another 2k.

Thanks!
