If you play with the eq settings in the menu, you can really perk up the audio even better. Two settings on the back of the mic, too... one is pretty flat/muddy, the other is nice and clear. The nice/clear setting with eq adjustments works extremely well. I get a lot of "what rig are you running? It sounds really good"! And then most of them haven't even heard of the FT-891. ;)

The new firmware update must be used with the new DSP and Panel display update, all 3 are in the .zip file

go to yaesu.com, then click on products, then hf transceivers, then arrow over to the ft-891 and click on it,, then click on files , then go down to FT-891 all current firmware including the new update main, DSP and panel 9/6/17 and click on that to down load it, or here it is:

yeah,... I went back to the site, and the link was changed to a correct link that went to the 891 software upgrade area.

Just my opinion. The FT-891 receive is better than the IC-7300. DSP settings are easier to use. I can pull out weak signals easier with the 891. The 7300 is noisier to me. Takes some fidgeting, but the 891 transmit audio is punchier, but the 7300 is cleaner. With a good mic and the right settings, the 891 is awesome.

That's a distinct possibility. I mostly bought it to compensate for the loss of my 7610 while it's shipped off for screen repair. Shipping will be cheaper for you if I pack it in a smaller box, other than the original one. Plus, you qualify for the Mudfoot repeat customer discount.

Well.....

I tried the screwdriver technique 6-8 times. Couldn't get it to take. I wasn't exactly excited about probing around like that anyways. Ended up getting the iron out to do it right. I wouldn't recommend trying it.

At least I tried it.
