Anyone currently using either of these UR6QW mixer/eq's?
If so which one on what transceiver and mic combo?
Are you happy with the results?
I've never heard one on air but the YouTube clips I've seen seem like the not only work but do, and very well.
The price difference between the W2IHY's and the UR6QW's Is substantial, but are they (W2HIY) worth the extra money?
When one purchases any of the w2ihy equipment are they paying a premium because the company spends a lot of money on Advertising?
I'm one of those people that think Malt-O-Meal cereals taste just as good as any General Mills product's. My Fruity Pebbles comes in a big plastic bag.

I've been interested in these too, curious to see the replies.

PS: While I never used one myself I've been told by others that the guy who builds the W2IHY stuff really follows through with the customer service, in a world where most people forget about you once they have your money that's gotta be worth something.

I've read the same. I also read that the guy who designed, builds and sells his items under UR6QW (Sergei) is just as helpful before and after a purchase.. Both are excellent in that aspect leaving the question as to is W2HIY worth 3 X's more than UR6QW'S items?
Some might argue that W2HIY's EQ/mixer have features the other doesn't.
Is a Noise Gate worth $300 extra? I'm not even sure but UR6QW might've added certain goodies to his builds making them comprable to what w2hiy is putting out. I do know one thing for sure people are buying products from both of those companies. I suspect UR6QW products are not built on a scale that the W2HIY items are, but that doesn't mean they aren't on par.
I hope some owners of either or possibly both items weigh in. 73

my opinion for what its worth
i have the big unit ..8 band /echo/compressor
out of the courier box it had no audio (and i had a rather disappointed witness in the shop to that ..the excitement was not there trust me!) ..was the resistor that was touching ground if you lightly touched the panel .
next problem (even thou i dont use it!) was the echo didnt work..both echo pots were not even soldered!

informed sergei of this..and he seemed dis-interested and didnt even respond to the second email telling him how i fixed it (the resistor took a while as it involved in dissembling the board from the box which is a pita and it was sandwiched between the board and the control area, in saying this the w2hiy noise gate is a dog to work on also!

have since added a bypass switch so i can do a/b tests..for what it is its ok however unless you are using it for wideband audio the lower and higher eq controls are not needed .i am a dxer so use the articulated region of the eq more than bass or super highs
the lesser 5 band unit would be more than enough for 95% of operators

i use mine on a stock ic738 and a ic251 and it seems to do the job ..for the money it certainly works better than the hundred or more similar devices i have used over the years .
have not tried a w2hiy eq ..how ever this thing of segei's and my w2hiy noise gate go hand in hand in a nosiy radio room (blowers etc in back ground)

i am however disappointed in sergei's lack of response even thou i am more than capable of fixing something like this.
i feel he could of addressed the lack of any solder on the echo pots (i sent him pics) and the clear issue of the audio cutting out with the slightest of pressure on the unit ...both of which would show up in Q/A when he assembles them

if i was to buy another one it would be the 5 band one ..the 8 band unit was one of the first he had out like within a week of him releasing them on ebay

for the cbers..the echo is not too bad..personally i hate echo but i was impressed as to how it worked all the same better than the rubbish ones built in to most export radios

I have the 7 band one. Reports say my audio is punchier and louder. I can't get wifi audio but that's probably my high range natural speaking voice. But then nobody I heard using one also has the voodoo audio sound. The range is not really much with only -6db-+6db. Might also be the radio I'm using it with(TS440 and IC735).

I really haven't heard my audio(it seems the guys only want to record the wifi guys) and even a request to record gets me only a few seconds of recording. I can't adjust it to what want to hear but am only dependent on the other guy's ear.

I know that some people use the box on their 2m rigs. I probably will have to find a 2m rig with an 8 pin connector so I can at least listen to myself and have an idea of doing what will result in what.

I've read that the guy who builds the ur6qw's (Sergei?) follows up on any complaints, issues or help that might be needed with his products during, and after the purchese.
It's been a while since I've researched the ur6qw.
If my memory serves me right most if not all reviewers on the product, and seller/Builder were rated close to the 5 of 5 on ehams review scale.
Unless the u6qw's reviews have changed for the worse i might purchase one along with the ftdx 1200 that I'll be getting as a birthday gift in June. 73 PS. After checking out the three band parametric EQ that's built into the ftdx 1200. I might not even need an outboard one. Although many people using hf''s with built-in eq's often use outboard one's. There must be a reason. A 3 band eq might not be enough for some. Maybe some like the Reverb that comes built into both the w2hiy, and u6qw. For under &125 (the 8 band u6qw) makes it tough to pass up. Or at least not be tempted to give it a try.

That's very dissapointing to hear. The old adage, don't believe everything you read is obviously true in this case.
I would personally assume if Sergei was disinterested in you and the problems that your purchase obviously had, he most likely treats everyone equally. If I decide to purchase one of his eq's I'll be doing so on eBay. There is a 100% return policy. I'm assuming the buyer has to pay for the return shipping. The price difference between the w2hiy, and w6qu is substantial enough for me to give Sergei and his product a try. If I decide I need one. Thanks for sharing the info. 73

I got the V5 for "7300" in the mail now.
This thing better be spotless and no unsoldered pots or I'll be pissed
Looking forward to your review. If posting a clip is possible please do so. Either way your input will definitely be a big help. 73

Note that I have heard that there are people making counterfeit u6qw stuff, don't know the details but it's something to look into.

Also are the guys running separate eq's into those 1200's using u6qw/w2hiy stuff or actual studio gear? I've heard the onboard settings can make those radios sound pretty good.

PS: Remember to give us a review on that radio. Do you do any type of shortwave listening? I'm not one who feels I need a ham rig for CB use but the idea of a combination CB/Shortwave receiver appeals to me for desk space reasons.

I've also heard of counterfeit u6qw gear.
Sergi does have his own eBay page. He also has a separate buying form online. As I mentioned I'm not even sure if I'm going to need any external EQ as the ftdx 1200 already has a 3-band parametric built right into it. From what I've gathered by listening just to the 11 m HF transceiver users I would say that most are using outboard audio gear as opposed to the likes of a w2ihy or u6qw eq's. That's strictly based upon listening to 11 meter ssb. Although I have read that many amateur radio operators are going ESSB route using very pricey outboard audio gear. I've read lots of HF forms where Arguments for and against ESSB go on often.
I don't have a HF receiver, and that is one of the reasons I decided to get an HF.
I used to own a RadioShack 300 dx (receiver.) After sitting for 25 plus years it only worked for about 2 weeks, but I did enjoy listening while it was working.
I was lucky enough to use it while the conditions were still fairly strong.
Listening to the amateur bands just might be the push I need in order to go for my ham license. The other reason for wanting the ftdx 1200 is that it does make a great SSB transceiver for the price. And even though it's going to be used specifically for 11 meters the tremendous amounts of listening capabilities, and iImo is worth the price. Some of those hf/sw receivers are quite pricey. I will let you know how the ftdx 1200 works out for me (in Jun.) 73, ps. I'm looking forward to the review our brother member (357) gives after he hooks up, and uses his u6qw.

357. How did it work out? What were your final reports and or oscilloscope readings with and without it in line?

I'll know when I get it.
