Sirio 5000pl length

The tuner will probably make it work but you are sacrificing efficiency. The whip length of a 5000 is a big difference from a 3 ft whip. Length or number of turns in the coil is directly proportionate to the length of the whip. If my memory serves me my P5000 has a 60+ inch whip.. if you cut that in half it will put your resonance way above the cb band..

After about 150W I start getting SWR anomalies with the Sirio Turbo 800. According to the manual it's supposed to withstand 200W continuous and 1000W CW but in my experience that's an overstatement.

The stated power handling capabilities could be exaggerated but it could also depend on what the antenna is "seeing" as its counterpoise. Is this a fixed/permanent mount or a magnet mount?

I assume you have height restrictions, this is why you have to stay with a 3 ft whip. If this is the case do yourself a favor and permanent mount. If you are serious and not afraid...drill. Keep in mind all mobile antennas are a compromise. A 1/4 wave whip on 11 meters is 100+ inches... the further you get away from this (coils) the more you sacrifice performance. Also look into bonding your vehicle if you go the permanent mount route.
Always try to make the absolute best possible antenna/mount possible for your application before adding amplifiers.. this has always worked for me anyways. Lots of really sharp guys on here and I'm sure they can add some suggestions.. welcome to the forum by the way.

Thanks for the suggestions, you're right, height restriction is the main reason. The other is I don't want to drill but might have to... Aside from those concerns, do you think the 5000 base with a heavier duty coil coupled with the 3-foot whip of Sirio Turbo 800 will be able to handle the added power? I mean if this would work, I'm sure Sirio (or another brand like Wilson) would have already had a line of antennas that have heavy duty bases and short whips. The fact that this doesn't exist leads me to believe it doesn't work. Maybe not even with an antenna tuner/matcher. Again you can probably "make it work" with the tuner.. but are you really going to gain anything? The extra wattage is getting dumped into a tuner to be corrected before going out to a non-resonant antenna. I have never used an amplifier with a short mobile antenna. Years ago I ran a 2 pill into a Wilson 1k with out any problem.. though I would never have pushed more than that. It was plenty for what I needed to do. I had a buddy that tried to run a 4 pill with a Wilson 500 mag mount and had swr issues. We dropped the headliner and got out the drill. Permanent mounted a Wilson 5k and no mo problems.

If it were me and height and mag mount was my restrictions I would just run as much power as you safely can without a tuner. 125-150 without a tuner vs 300 with a tuner.. probably little change..

Well, the 3-foot whip actually does resonate, although it has a very narrow bandwidth. I'm almost certain connecting it to Sirio 5000 base would "de-tune" it, since it's designed to use the Sirio 800 base so when I change that, it will have impact on resonance... It's kind of an expensive test, to dish out $70... I might just have to live with 150W limit, for now. I sent an email to Sirio directly asking if it would work or if they have another mobile antenna with a short whip, awaiting their reply. As an alternative, I can also try the Wilson "Little Wil" as it's designed to handle 300W but I'm doubting that rating...

I definitely wouldn't push 300 watts through a Little Wil..

Yeah, I didn't think it would be able to handle 300W; on a positive note, I found a mobile antenna that just might fit the bill:

Supposedly it can handle 600W and is 3-foot tall so I'm going to place an order and see how this one pans out. Will update once the product arrives with the test results.

thank to choose our products.

No, isn’t possible use a different mix base/radiator because any models require its specific coil into the base to have the best impedance matching.

The power rating depend to the coil of radiator and not to the base, so if you use one TURBO 800 radiator its power remain 200 W and is not increased.

Short dimension and high power are in conflict so, short dimensions correspond to minor power, long dimensions correspond to big power...

Although this makes sense, their other antennas within the Turbo line that are 1000 or 2000 are taller but are still rated for 200W. I think if the only problem is impedence matching, the tuner would be able to handle this just fine...in theory.
