Any recommended AT-6666 durability mods

Well I'm not trying to get a performance mod or anything like that. Just that there is an overwhelming number of people that say the finals blow. So I was wondering if there was anything that could be done to prevent this from happening.

This was when they were first introduced. FM was pushing 60w or something crazy. Some people would run them maxtilt overseas on FM of course and cookem.. Most with sense you turn down the FM pot inside and adjust down AM as well.

Also sticking them in confined space is a no-no.

Oh... Well mine is in a decently tight and confined space... Hmm... Not really anywhere else to mount the thing...

And for the record for everyone. I ONLY considered the MAX-MOD for added durability. I could give two squirts over the "extra 10% power". I just figured a larger chip could more efficiently dump heat into the chassis and reduce the wear on the item and potentially increase the lifespan and durability of the radio.

I have the MAX-MOD at the house, just have to send it back then I suppose. I expected a bit more positive reactions towards it lol.

I have an Anytone 6666 in a 2013 F150. The truck makes some kind of noice that the radio picks up. The noise blanker in the radio does a good job of filtering it out. I mounted mine in a cubby hole below the radio/heater controls. I cut the back of the cubby out, which gives me a place to run the power wires, the antenna and the line to an external speaker. It also creates some air circulation as well as puts the heat sink really close to the hvac housing, which I want to believe pulls heat out of the heatsink when the ac is on.

Yeah I'm sure the temperature drop around the HVAC housing is pretty decent. I have mine in a cubby hole underneath the radio and right above the 4WD shifter. It's got an open back so maybe it's alright...

I dunno. Just still trying to make first contact with this radio and no luck as of yet.

Have you tried getting a CB contact? Like channel 19 freq? To make sure it working??

It's not a simple drop in component. It's a higher voltage device. These guys like simple stuff. Without test equipment I wouldn't mess with it.

Agreed. Regardless of the fact that the manufacturer markets it as a direct replacement and mentions nothing about it requiring special modifications, unless you have a crack team of NASA scientists and engineers handy, I’d leave it alone.

Has the 11 meter band conversion been done to give it the CB channels?

Yeah I was finally able to get ONE person on a mic check on 19. But I was fairly close to them when it happened so I'm wondering if my range is just garbage. Wish I had another CB setup with a regular antenna to test it against. I've got one of those old GE HELP! setups on a 4 door that I was testing it against and it could hear the AT-6666 up to about 2 miles away. Dunno if that's a problem with the AT-6666 setup or the GE.

Yeah, super easy on these radios which was pretty nice. I'm used to then needing some sort of internal soldering to convert.
