Just ordered a new Tecsun PL 880 to carry for boredom elimination while traveling. It seems to have great reviews. I haven't bought a portable shortwave set for along time. My last one was a little pocketable Grundig. The single 18650 battery caught my eye. I have a handfull of them lying around. Airband receive is a must for me and it even has that.

Coming Tuesday and I can't wait.

I've been eyeing the Tecsun PL880 too for monitoring in the back yard.

Strange battery choice but, like you, I have a bunch of them for flashlight use.

Good luck with it. Let us know how you get on with it.

Will do...

From what I've read, it seems to be one of the best in its class. Supposedly, the speaker provides nice audio. The signal meter is odd. Instead of a needle or graph, it just shows a numerical value. I think that makes more sense, just unusual. The price wasn't bad. 4 filter choices for each mode is a nice feature. The vids I've watched shows it has good interference reduction, sensitivity and selectivity. 3000 memories is pretty darn wild.

I really like the fact it shuts down charging when battery is charged ,you can see how long it took too.only bad i know about is the antenna go easy on it last 2 pieces bend easy.had to get new antenna.your milage might vary.

I didn't know it's been out that long. I got the black one. One review mentioned the top antenna extensions were flexible. Not sure if it was a recent improvement. I'll look up the hidden features. It's coming Tuesday, but I could have used it last night. I was up late working on my bike. Would've been nice to listen to it.

I hope the long wave reception is good. Just about every portable I have has crappy reception. Can't enjoy listening to games. Gonna work on making an antenna today for use in my Jeep. I have a handfull of those batteries, so I should get long listening times.

That's a long time to charge.
