homebrew astroplane build

I remember playing with this model. If you look at the last post in the thread you linked, I modified his sigma4 model to be easier to use. I prefer my own ways of making such models, they are easier for me to grasp.

I am curious about him saying that it is not omni directional? It is when I use it. He did say he wasn't done playing with it yet...

I made a couple of simple 4NEC2 models that were presented looking like his model details in his post, but I never quite got the hang of using the software performance results. However, I was able to figure out his dimensions. These models were not as complicated as an A/P or a Sigma4. They did not agree with my dimensions, so I asked him, but he never responded.

I think I've seen GHZ24's model of the Sigma 4, and it had a square radial loop. I didn't know how that effected the results, so I asked him about that too. He never responded. I seem to recall later, that I saw his model in Henry's introduction to his report on "The Avanti Sigma 4."

DB, I see a small bit of skewing in my A/P models, but I would not suggest it makes the A/P...not omni directional. I think the skewing is due to the radiator being off-set to one side on the mounting bracket. I have a model where I checked the skewing by locating the radiator in the middle. This made it similar to one of the schematics in the patent. Don't remember the results though.

Did you post this model? If so, could you give me a link or an idea for a search?

Back in the late 90's there used to be a old guy in down in the central valley, his handle was Sparkplug, that built a antenna out of wire that was supported by 3/4" pvc.
It was basically a wire Astro plane antenna when you got a good look at it.
He called it a " Spark A Matic ( no shens), it looked like hell to be honest, because he heated the pvc to shape it.
He sold dozens of them.
People raved about them.
It would not cost much to build if you wanted to try.

Thinking about doing so using driveway marker poles in lieu of pvc.
Or a smaller version for 6 meters.

Would one made from fiberglass and 14 AWG insulated stranded copper wire model/perform much differently than an aluminum one?

It should work about the same.

I would think it would be more narrow banded with 14AWG wire elements.

It will be more narrow banded, although, I doubt you will notice the difference.

I've posted the nec2 file so people could take it and copy/paste into a file and load it with 4nec2. Several of the models from that era were based on that model. All of my models from that era, unfortunately, have dead links.

DB, do you know that cause your old links to go bad? Could it have something to do with your computer failure?

I used to host all my own files on a web server at my house. One day the web server crashed, and since then the drive was unreadable. Because of that I lost all of those old files.

That is why all my recent files were uploaded to this forum, that way as long as this forum is up they will hopefully not be lost.

DB, I see other links with the same dead link icon noted instead of the image. Here is a link to a thread with HomerBB and LazyBones1222 posting, some links are available and some are dead. I might be missing some distinction here.

If not, do you think both of these guys might have his own server doing something similar to what you describe?

All I can say is the files that were linked in the past are no longer there. The doesn't necessarily mean they had their own web servers, perhaps a hosing web site has since taken them down due to the user canceling service, or lack of activity. It could literally be anything.
