Chameleon Vertical Antenna - 10-80 Meters

Despite having 4” of snow on the ground and still coming down hard, SWR’s haven’t changed one iota. (y)

Since I've added a CB to my station, I decided to try something with my antenna. I removed the Chameleon Extension and am using only my 102" steel whip, the Chameleon Hybrid Micro and a single wire radial for counterpoise (16.5').

Am very pleased with the results! (y)

To save some typing, I am only showing the readings at the middle of each band.

2.8 @ 7.200
2.3 @ 14.250
1.5 @ 18.130
1.4 @ 21.300
1.2 @ 24.960
1.0 @ 27.205
1.1 @ 28.400
2.5 @ 50.200

80 Meters is now over 3.0 and out of the range of my internal tuner. But that's okay! The guys on 80 seem to only talk about politics anyway.

Previous readings (before the mod) can be found in Post #13.

All in all, a great day's work! (Actually, just 30 minutes.) :p

80 Meters and 6 Meters are now both over 3.0 and out of the range of my internal tuner. But that's okay! The guys on 80 seem to only talk about politics and I never heard anything on 6.

Whew! Made me sweat just thinking about all that work.

And not only is it Fried-day, the sun is over the yardarm (somewhere).

.(Is that a Lone Star I hear being cracked? How’s the audio resolution of that primal sound? Are the dogs chained? The fire department on speed dial to advise of a false alarm?).

I’ve just blown $55 at McMaster-Carr so’s Alien Allen [K0BG] doesn’t launch a thunderbolt up the highway from Roswell next time I’m against the governor and praying I get past Clines Corners unscathed. (Those double-tooth washers; internal/external were the hurt). Open the mobile bible, and there can be consequences.

And it took a LOT less than 30” to place the order. More than one vehicle to bond. And, another $79 for 60’ of (let me get the word order right), 3/4” tinned-copper flat-braided weave. Which was a good price.

I’ll admit that it’s a happy sight to me to find supplies above and beyond the present project when I open cabinet and bags.

So, where’s my beer? I’m certain I hurt more. Sitting outside Chillicothe to load is painful enough.

(Pleased for you!)

Whew! I'm pooped just reading about all that. o_O

Bet you and I are the guys around who know where Chillicothe is. :D

Sorry to disappoint, but all I have on hand are Diet Coke and Diet Dr. Pepper. :ROFLMAO:

I’ll pretend that — as close as you are to the home of Dr Pepper — that the word diet wasn’t in there.

Used to stop at Dublin every week for the original formula cane sugar version. The real thing.

Mix that with my latest find: TX WHISKEY. From Cowtown. Have it every time we are at H3 Ranch.

The real thing mixed with the UNreal thing. Hell. You’ll SEE those damned standing waves.

And Chillicothe is a nice place. Guarantee Mudfoot can find it as he’s not far up the road as Texans figure it. Kenworth has a plant here. I’m loaded, and doing a 35-reset before rolling down the classic invasion route from Virginia.

Used to have to go to Austin some when working and always took 281 rather than 35. Always stopped in Hico and picked up some of the Dublin Dr.Peppers at the large convenience store there. Pie at the Koffee Kup Kafe’ across the street is awesome. (y):p

Well, the Chameleon Antenna was a good one. But the wire radial strung across the yard was a bother and a hazard.

Its replacement?

A Solarcon A99.

SWR's at middle of each band:

10 Meters - 2.2
11 Meters - 1.15
12 Meters - 2.3
15 Meters - 2.3
17 Meters - 1.3
20 Meters - Way High

Not much on 10, 12 and 15 these days. A little on 17. When the solar cycle gets over its Coronavirus, I'll be good to go. Meanwhile, a lot of local chat and some skip on 11.
Was growing tired of 20 and 40, so not having them is no problem. :D

Have fun, everybody! (y)

All good things must end.
Missed having 20 meters more than I thought I would. The Chameleon lives! Back to using the setup in Post #34.

Am once again amazed how well this thing works. Truly omnidirectional despite having a singe radial. If I can hear them, I can talk to them. And this thing hears like gangbusters.

Over and out. I know everyone is tired of hearing about me bouncing back and forth between radios and antennas. o_O So am I. :D

Stay safe, everybody!

Yeah, no microphones on a turntable for this guy to choose from, but highball glasses with them jointed straws. Radios, radios, and more radios. Hardest working man in the Metroplex.

Shoot, every time I get my meds adjusted, the clouds part and the sun shines.

Again.
