What do you do, or did you do, for a living?

I grow things

Worked a number of jobs in high school doing construction, towing, scrapping and even retail. The experiences turned out to be big foundation for my adult life.

Joined the Marine corps as a generator technician. Didn’t work on engines (officially); only electrical.

After a few years of doing that I did some different stuff during the war....mostly security and police advising.

After the war I went back to my original field as a “utilities chief”. At that level it was mostly inspections and etc. Maintained a number collateral duties with weapons and etc.

My last tour on active duty - my absolute favorite - was teaching National Electric Code to journeymen.

Went to work at a sporting goods store after retiring. Ended up the “bike guy”, as I was actively racing MTB at the time (and it turned out I was a much better tech than I was competitor).

Eventually lost interest in that and opened a sawmill. That kind of got blasted away by hurricane Florence 18 months in. Was fun as heck while it lasted.

Most recently, I’ve been working as an arborist and sometimes equipment operator on govt contracts. At the same time, especially in the lulls, rebuilding hydraulic cylinders.

Been on hiatus since last summer, and am currently a professional WWDX poster.

To quote Lane Myers “hell, if you can do it...”

I’ve done a lot. Worked various auto parts stores doing counter sales, worked in a GM dealer parts dept (always a Ford guy too). Built desk in a plant (Jesus save me), I was a Schwans man...yeah. Ran a compressed gas cylinder route. Did restaurant hood fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers. Worked in various body shops building wrecks, painting cars..all that jazz. Drove a few dumps for various people, bought my own and ran it for 15 yrs and was gonna walk away from that. Oddly, ended up driving for someone else...again...I believe FML is appropriate here.

Somewhere along the way I ended up in this “hobby” or is it better suited to call it an obsession? I spend a lot of time working on radios and not so much talking on them, hmm.

Then there’s the whole thing about the metal planet that’s not a planet, jackasses blowing up my guys day job, finding out my son is a pansy that doesn’t want to dominate the galaxy with me...oh never mind.

“hell, if you can do it...”

First day on a govt contract they put me behind the wheel of a 10wheel dump truck hauling a 20,000lb dry “mini” excavator. Total had to be creeping up on, if not exceeding, 40k. Farm tags and all.

I didn’t even know how to start it...had no clue what a “fuel shutoff” was...

It was a much less eloquent quote that I heard that day, but in line with yours: “shit or get off the pot”

I worked in a furniture factory assembling hideaway beds. 3yrs
Then I worked at Baldor electric 20yrs. Worked several different jobs there. Packing department, stator department, winding department and assembly department.
Been in the oilfield since 08, floor hand for most of it. Started with Nabors drilling then went to work for Desoto drilling which has now become South Western Drilling or SWN. Motor hand now. But I'm ready for a change. Most days I get pulled 15 different directions at the same time. A typical day goes like this, logistically Wally we don't have any trucks today so you shouldn't have to bad of a day. Then later on 10 trucks show up at the same time, makes me want to start taking people out. If they only new what goes through the mind of the easygoing guy they all know, they would fire me in a heartbeat.
