I was browsing the rules and was kinda surprised there was no ERP limits on QRP. 5 watts into an 8 element isn't what I would consider QRP.

Never has been an ERP rule for QRP. The rules pertain to TX power output. Why would it apply to QRP levels? The whole idea is to maximum station efficiency thru lower losses and higher gains. If that were the case ERP limits should apply to legal limits stations. 1500 watts into an eight element is like shooting fish in a barrel...........using dynamite.

Now that is a good thought. To eliminate the weight of the station and add weight to the operators skill, they could find the highest gain amateur station on each band, and give a multiplyer for every db under that station you are.

Then maybe address the 4,000 mile no point US contact to the 150 mile any direction point contact in Europe or something.

Really, the whole contest seems silly to me. Thankfully it's not an every day thing, so hopefully they have fun while it lasts.

5904 thank you!

It is grueling fun. We lost the first 3 hours of the contest due to pretty bad T-Storms right at the station local. Then took another 3 hours before the noise subsided enough to hear at normal levels.
Then Saturday evening the Sun blasted us with a Storm and pretty much shut down the long distance comms on the 160/80/40 meter bands...
20 meters (14MHz) and above was pretty much Blackout!!!

These points and Qso's were done with ONE Transmitter operational and multiple operators in shift over the time period.
No recordings or auto-calling software was used!!!!

All the Best
Gary

I resemble that remark! Still fun! Let off the PTT switch, and sounds like you got your head in Hornet's Nest.:LOL:
