The New FTDX10 Compact HF/50MHz 100W SDR

I have to agree that Yaesu...NEW Yaesu...rigs are mostly garbage when compared to the quality of their older radios.

This deterioration of quality and customer relations, seems to coincide with Yaesu being separated from Vertex by Motorola. Now to be fair, the customer service reps in California do a good job, but Yaesu Japan leaves their hands tied.

Yaesu’s recent offerings in the past 5-7 years have been very poor quality radios, at high prices, and yes, the customer has been the unknowing beta tester for these rigs. I think Yaesu’s business model has shifted to catering to the “newer” generation of ham radio operators who think using the internet to work “DX” is just as good as doing it the ol’ fashion way...and way easier too ! (we don’t need no stinkin’ antennas ! ).

And these interweb DX’er’s line up for the newest piece of gear that Yaesu offers, with cash in hand, and seem to be fine with the months it takes, and excruciating firmware update processes it requires, to get that new radio working the way it was suppose to when they pulled it out of the box.

If this FTDX10 is real, it will NOT be competition for the IC-7300. The IC-7300 is one of the best selling radios because it delivers good performance, reliability, and ease of use, at a good price point. Something Yaesu does not seem to be able to do anymore.

My $450 Xiegu G90 blows away the $1100 FT-991A I owned for less than a year, on the HF bands. I have said in other threads that I will not buy another Yaesu radio, and I can’t begin to recall all the Yaesu radios I have owned over the past two decades, but it is a significant number. But I suspect the Yaesu fan boys will disagree with me. Too bad, because I was a Yaesu fan boy when it meant something.

oh well truth hurts dont it?

Now its brought up,what was that pricy china build style look9ng radio yaesu came out with last year? Seems like it was pricy but blow the competition away but now silent

Ftm 300 dr?
Sure had the chinese look to it

It gets my vote.
Having had a great performing (trouble free) FTdx-3000, this new Yaesu’s compact size plus that gorgeous 5” display = grand slam homer in my book. Love it! (y)

I'm leery of Yaesu. The HF rigs made in the late '80s/early'90s were superior to the ones that came later in terms of receiver performance. I had the joy of operating an FT-990 several times. Loved that radio. When I went looking for something in 2000 my choice was between finding a clean used '990 and the new FT-920 (well, it had been out a few years). I chose the '920. Big mistake. The internal tuner broke in no time flat. I never did get it fixed and simply bought an LDG AT-200Pro instead.

I liked the option of being able to switch the DSP on and off but found the receiver had significant blowby and poor opposite sideband rejection when the DSP was off. I guess the expectation was that the DSP be on all the time. There were other things that I've forgotten that just cumulatively worked toward me knowing that buying it was a mistake. I added practically every INRAD mod to help it but the basic issues remained.

I moved it down the road in 2010 and bought the K3 which I still have and use daily. I still have several Yaesu radios that are serving me well. I'm not in the market for their current offerings.

Anything you buy from Yaesu makes you a BETA Tester. They rush crap out like bad drugs & let the users figure it out. Some never is so they just make another one & leave the consumers holding onto crap that will never work properly.I have heard & read so many stories & even watch the Yaesu reps at hamcation ignore a guy who complained to them.I have had more than enough JUNK from them & would not take any transceiver they make for FREE if I must keep & use it.

They keep making these smaller radios with small screens. That radio would be totally useless to me in the car as I could never see that screen. With most ham being of the older type I just don't get why the MFG keeps making the damn stuff smaller.

Here you go old timer, now you can see the screen!

Can't believe someone has one used for sale already. This is the 200w MP version. Street price is $4,200. Must not be that good of a radio?
