Anytone Ares 2

No idea where that idea came from, but my guess is that it was done to accommodate NPC use (which I do not recommend at this point). The latest firmware fixes the clarifier issues mostly, but I agree, the clarifier should be next to the CH knob.

I will say, that after using the radio for a while now, the clarifier position has not been a problem at all, but I would still prefer it to be moved.

FYI: I have tested AM at 12dB SINAD at it's around -114.2dBm

Pez, thank you for your continued commitment to testing this newest bunch of radios. I know you don't have to but you doing so and sharing the results is a great benefit to this group of radio heads and others in the market for new gear. Much appreciation to you sir!

It Looks like Radioddity has a version of the Ares II up for preorder.

Hey Eldorado828, thanks a lot mate. I'm glad you get something from it! I simply want to share accurate information and facts about these rigs, and all rigs that come past my bench, because there is always a LOT of information circulating, and often it is incorrect.

There will always be biased opinions and some negativity in the radio hobby, but I just want to stick the to the facts, and measured results. (Finding real problems is a good thing - we can try to get them fixed!)

It's a really great time for 12m/11m/10m radio right now. There is so much great stuff happening, and some exciting new products incoming.

Pez could you do a low dead key test? Maybe a 2 watt dead key showing PEP and average swing with NPC on and off.

From memory, setting a 2 watt carrier with NPC OFF was around 8-10w PEP. NPC ON was around 12-15w PEP, but with a lot of distortion to see those numbers.
(Don't worry about "average swing" readings, especially with NPC working the way it is now, because that's only going to show higher average readings due the the distortion)! This is obviously not what we want to see.

Also watch the last CBRadioMagazine video, and the review video's from Scotts Radios for more recommendations to keep the NPC OFF, for now.

Thank you I really apricate it. Doesn't look like this would be good to run a 200-300 watt 2 transistor amplifier with unless moded.

SSB and FM are really good. But the NPC (for AM) is still in the early stages I would say. It talks well on AM barefoot, with NPC OFF. It all depends on what you need.

How do you get to the engineering menu on this radio? I know some are going to answer my question with another question like (why you want to do that?)

We are not quite sure at the moment. The shops on YouTube that do these radios aren't telling. But the radios are just starting to trickle into the us market. I am sure that as more and more people get their hands on these, someone will figure it out and make a video. It's only a matter of time.

I know what you mean by " why would you want to do that?". I was the kid that took his toys apart on Christmas day. Every new radio I get, I have to pop the covers just to see. It's just the way I am.

Yup, I received my radio Saturday, the radio looks good for what it is, but there are definitely some settings I would really like to change on FM and SSB and the only way to do that is by getting into the service menu. I’m going to keep on looking around and see what I can find.

I'm speculating here, but I'm thinking it's going to be a software thing. You can already change some settings via software. (R. Beep tones, ctcss, etc) the right program may be able to adjust other settings.
