External device to play sound clips on a CB radio

"Kinda hypocritical to post FCC regulations when you don't seem to have a problem with other illegal mods like channel expansions, ham gear on 11m, or running big amplifiers. A clipped limiter is more annoying than a brief sound clip once in a while. Not everyone that uses these noise toys sit on the button like the 111 guy."

Hey, he wanted it in writing, so I gave it to him......straight from the FCC regs.....
Keep your panties on......

The quickest way to the grave is taking life too seriously. If making something you don't like disappear was as simple as letting it ruin your day, I know I'd be pissed off every day of my life.

Look at the rest of the world, its all chaos, so why does anyone expect 11m to be a peaceful haven where nobody does anything offensive? Kinda high expectations in my opinion. I got heart problems as is, so I won't be cussing at someones noise toy. People suck sometimes, but lets not waste the nitro pills on it.

What he said, after all we are in the CB section, were for many years these have been the norm.
These have become very popular on cb radio in Mexico, this is evident when the band is open north south and channel 5 is filled with stations running background audio injected into the radio and multiple Roger beeps.
Been around since I started playing radio
Still here, don't think it's going away.

Do us all a huge favor and forget the stupid noise toys!! Those things have been the bane of CB since the 1970's.
God gave you a voice to talk with. If you have nothing to say then stay silent. Noise toys are for people who don't have enough brains to say anything worthwhile, all while clogging up the band for those who do want to communicate!

I only wanted one to try and surprise old friend by playing noise toy they had 15 years ago. My guess is the device is probably over $100.

If you can not figure that out with a google search your not smart enough to own it. Like giving a toddler a loaded hand gun!

Noise Toys are for loosers and drunks that have no place on civilized 2 way radio communication. I only drink and post on internet I never drink and talk on the radio! Just to be clear typo's are the worst you get on here if I have too much to drink! Oh I left off agitators that do not have substance abuse issues though rare they do exhist. 2 way radio is for two grown adults and well behaved children to have intelligent polite non vulgar communication. It is not to annoy persons with noise toys, rebroadcasting the radio or your own music, hearing the sound of your own voice or anything like that! I feel bad when I accidently turn on a rodger beep by accident.

It should be like guys getting together to play cards with their wives and kids around. That sort of atmosphere! A little bit of energy and a little bit rawdy but not too rawdy. Not guys at a strip club in the 1980's with electronic techno pop music and drunk vulgar people getting in your face. That is the problem with both CB and Amateur radio today. Same idea with amplifiers and using them properly vs how most people with more than a 4 pill are total trash looking to cause trouble and be anti-social! I am sure there are those rare brain surgeons operating 64 pill amps with as little power as they need to talk to their friend 10,000 miles away while not stepping on everyting inside of 80 mile radis of their home but those are not the norms!

There is simply to much trash with a radio, amplifier, echo, noise toy, 10,000 watts, over modulated splatter box. It is why the hobby died and dying. CB radio has too much trash and antisocial behavior. Amateur has a little bit of that but suffers more from elitiest gate keepers and lack of modern development and lack of fun expansion of hobby. Add to that the stupidly expensive price of equipment mode restrictions. If you are going to break the law you are better off doing it on CB. The thing is CB opperators break the law in very primitive ignorant manner they are not doing digital encrypted self healing mesh network with channel hopping on CB where it would take a few years to even get noticed no they are drunk on air with big power and noise toys opperating out of band annoying NASA, NSA, DEA, Amateur radio operators etc....

The hobby is suppossed to bring people together not push people away! It is suppossed to be social not anti-social.

News Flash you can't find the noise toy device I'm looking for using google. The person who made it doesn't go around advertising it that i can find.

I don't condone the use of using those either but I will say what I can tell how many people are doing that these days.

These guy are going direct inject into their radios where they can use outboard gear and even computer programs and SDR receivers with their radios.
Once a radio is able to audio interface with a computer, sound files or received audio can be recorded and transmitted over the air. This makes playing obnoxious sound bytes or doing the "water gates" much easier and with better sound quality.

Those sound box toys like the recordable PP1 and others are an 8 bit sound sample which is LO-FI whereas a computer file can record audio at 16 bits or higher for a much improved HI-FI sound quality. There will be some limitations with a CB radio re-transmitting though but it should still be better than 8 bit sound quality.

Modern Ham rigs have 16 bit sound recorders built into them but they don't re-transmit audio that was recorded from over the air. However, it can be done by interfacing the HF radio to a computer for re-broadcast and it's rather easy to do if somebody wanted to.

It's a rather involved process to modify a CB for direct inject. Search this forum or google it and there should be some information on how to do so.

I was working late one night and had just installed a "PP" sound recorder/playback module in a customer's 2517. I insist on putting it inside the radio so the input can be connected before the volume control. Keeps the record level the same no matter where that knob is turned. This is important to keep the sample from being noisy or overdriven and distorted. The playback is likewise connected downstream from the mike gain control so the playback level won't change when the mike gain knob is turned. Makes playing a sample back over the air a lot cleaner and more convincing. A couple of truck drivers were on the channel and one told the other to go to channel 21. The other guy said "Wad ya say?". I captured his reply perfectly. Pure dumb luck. Of course the first driver repeated himself. I'll guess driver number two changed to channel 21, but I keyed up and played the sample "Wad ya say?". Driver number one repeated himself, go to 21. Keyed it and played the sample again. Now driver number one is getting annoyed. By the fourth time he was getting really pissed. Driver number two came back on the channel and asked why driver number one didn't come up to channel 21 like he said. I left them to work it out from there.

Something like this might work:
quote:
Any audio file in .mp3 or .wav format with a length of up to 1.5 seconds can be used as a roger beep. It will be played automatically at the end of your broadcast, immediately after you release the talk button. There are no limits to your imagination. The file is transferred from the computer to the module via the micro USB port using a standard USB cable (cable not included).

edit: Here's a link to a supplier in the US: https://moonrakeronline.com/us/pni-ech01-echo-and-roger-beep-module

For years I threatened to put the four signature guitar notes from Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here on a noise toy and use it as a roger beep. Would call it a "Roger Roger", as in Waters.

Then I found out those four notes weren't Roger's idea, came from David Gilmour. Just as well.

David Gilmour is still making music today. Just the other day I turned one of my 23 year old twins into a fan. Spotify is where I listen to his work.

Let's see that law in writing from a legitimate source that says I can't play a sound clip OTA.
Have you even read the little Part 95 insert that comes with new radio's back in the day? If you have and you need it spelled out you than you need a lot of help with readng comprehension. I need a lot of help with my spelling so it's find we all have our weak spots.

I have made this easy for you and have cut out the appropriate section for your review:

§ 95.933 Prohibited CBRS uses.

In addition to the prohibited uses set forth in § 95.333, the operator of a CBRS station must not use a CBRS station:

(a) To transmit one-way communications other than those permitted in § 95.931(b) (transmissions to seek to initiate two-way communications with another station are not considered to be one-way communications);

(b) To advertise or solicit the sale of any goods or services;

(c) To advertise a political candidate or political campaign (a CBRS station may be used for the business or organizational aspects of a campaign);

(d) To communicate with stations in other countries, except General Radio Service stations in Canada;

(e) To transmit communications for live or delayed broadcast on a radio or television broadcast station (a CBRS station may be used to gather news items or to prepare programs);

(f) To transmit music, whistling, sound effects or any other audio material to amuse or entertain; or

(g) To transmit any sound effects solely to attract attention.

It was in 1976 when they came out with a lot of new rules for the 1977 models of CB radios. They let them have 40 channels, but limited output to 4 watts AM, 12 watts PEP for SSB, and only your voice could be transmitted. No roger beeps, music or any "noise toys". That's why Browning couldn't have the "ping" in their new model, the MK IV.

If you want to play "legal-ese" with it, then the people with a simple noise toy that may play a sound effect (With similar length to a roger beep) should be in prison, while 111 guy is perfectly legal since he wasn't doing it to "amuse", "entertain", and definitely didn't want to "attract attention".

People like you are what is wrong with radio today. I can't even count the number of times I've heard hams talk about how they need to take back 11 meters.
I'd rather see the 11 meter folk take over more ham bands.

Some people can actually enjoy life on the radio, talking with locals, sharing jokes, stories, life experiences, and even an occasional sound effect for a lighthearted laugh from all.

I've never owned or desired one, but I'm also glad I don't have a stick so far up my rear, that it makes me detestable.

I don't believe anyone has been talking "legal-ese" per se......
Someone asked to "see it" in writing and we have obliged a couple of times......
Again, "keep your panties on"......
