    l have KX2 (used weekly), IC705 (stored in the box), and QMX (fun playing with). l have owned IC-703, FT817, FT818, KX3. Overall my favourite is the KX2.

    For me, 1973. My parents were doing CB and l would tag along to "coffee breaks". l went away from it for years and during late 90's got back in when l helped a friend tune up his radio. Shortly after wrote my ham radio test.

    For SOTA and POTA many things are important besides more power. The antenna, height of antenna and feedline all factor in. I should be 3 x Mountain Goat by spring, possibly the first or second in Canada. Give it a try and remember to have fun.

    I run a MX-P50m amplifier with my KX2 when needed for SOTA activations. 40 watts output when not over-driven.
