For SOTA and POTA many things are important besides more power. The antenna, height of antenna and feedline all factor in. I should be 3 x Mountain Goat by spring, possibly the first or second in Canada. Give it a try and remember to have fun.

I run a MX-P50m amplifier with my KX2 when needed for SOTA activations. 40 watts output when not over-driven.

I'm hoping to catch some more tonight, just east of Calgary. I hope HF conditions are good tomorrow.

For a 40-10 EFHW use 6' between transformer and the 1:1 balun. Hint, keep the transformer low.

My IC-705 is my back-up radio to my KX2. I do have fun with it when I use it. I will wait until my local candy store gets one in and on display before l think about getting one.
