One thing I forgot to mention about the above advice I posted is that isn't really a fix for an impedance input mismatch but rather a way to mask the problem so your radio sees a better SWR.
Yes, clean the connectors for a better electrical connection but I doubt that's causing the problem.
I'm not an expert on these amps but it has been well known that many amplifiers built for CB use do not have tuned 50 ohm inputs which can make the SWR read much higher than a 52 ohm 1.1 match...
I recall "the Professor" developed that salt water battery charging technology to recharge the batteries for their shortwave radio. Funny that he couldn't develop a glue out of tree sap to repair their boat to get off the island.
I did once watch a YouTube video on coax jumper lengths for amplifiers. Normally I would call BS on this too but the video made a reasonable valid point on jumper lengths while running the typical C.B. class C amps. According to the video host, nearly all of those type of amplifiers DO NOT have...
Screwdrivers are better mainly because the remote tuning and also one antenna can easily run multiple bands.
Whether a screwdriver, Hamstick, or Hustler RM 40, on 40m you are lucky to get more than +/- 20 kHz before the SWR get's too high. With loaded antennas, this means you have to tune it...
HRD just did a major overhaul and have been adding updates weekly since. I thought I would check DM780 to see if there any issues an mine is working just fine on PSK-31.
Are you receiving a S-5 or better signal on your radio? Are both your TX and RX input/output sources selected to the correct...
Another option is just fill the inside of the mic case with foam or other dampening material. If the mic case has a lot of dead space the electret mics sensitivity picks up on that hollowness. This is a common mod on the Icom IC-7000 eletret hand mics and it really does improves tonal qualities...
I don't know about the J version of that Kenwood but yes it would be a waste to use a pair of 2879 's in it. My guess is it doesn't, it's probably using the same driver transistor as the other versions to drive the two 2879's but the J version is just using the driver for the main power out...
I use RG8(not rg8x) for jumpers. RG8 is nice and flexible for jumpers and because I use solder crimp connectors, the larger coax makes a tight crimp on the ground shield. RGx being a thinner diameter doesn't make as solid of a crimp so that's why I don't use it.
As for all those specs on coax...
I just checked mine after reading this, on my LP-100A meter on SSB it shows 42 watts with a hard whistle on 21.340 Mhz. With my big mouth spoken voice it hovers around 18 to 25 watts. I haven't done any swing or power mods to this radio. Most of us here bought these new from Scotts Radio because...
In other words, you are saying I wasn't wrong I was just mistaken. That's funny!
I never said I was a Yaesu fan just the fact the Yaesu higher end radio's went with a hybrid super het/hybrid combining the best of both worlds.
