Full quarter wave whips are the gold standard but not always pratical for some mobile installs. A Wilson 2000 will work just fine but that are almost as expensive. The obvious advantage to them is manageable height and fine tuning. The losses in the coil on the Wilson is insignificant to the...
Those whip get shipped as oversized so where ever you buy them online oversized shipping is included in the price or billed separately. $78 sounds about right.
DX Engineering sells the whip for $42 but add $39.99 for oversized shipping and it's $82
Remember when Ratshack sold them, the last...
What Captn Kilowatt said about using full scale readings is true with just about any good meter out there. This is why other type meters like analog needle have different power scales. The most accurate (or close enough) reading should be when the power measuring is at least 3/4 scale or more...
What I do know is in the service menu mode, the settings are value references and no two radio's will have the numbers same across the board. Also there is no factory default to revert back to so write down the original values before making changes so you can get back to the where you started in...
Are you getting that noise on all bands? I had one truck where on 40m I would hear the acceleration noise but other bands were fine. Could never eliminate it, just got used to it.
As for LEDs, it maybe the the LED exciter generating the noise. I haven't experienced that yet. If you have enough...
Bending could do it or maybe some shims on the opposite side that it's leaning would do it. May need a longer bolt to compensate for it though.
You'll get it!
Looks solid and stable. Yeah, I think I would put it on the passenger side.
Is there a way you put some spacers on one side of the bracket mount to level it up?
Other than that, it looks good!
Hustler antennas still sells the SSM-3 pot belly stainless steel spring. It is kind of heavy but it is only 4 inches though. These are a good as you are going to get for a 102 whip for sturdiness and long life without rust.
Some of those truck stop cheapy springs will likely flop the 102 whip...
Maybe, I only said that because the ATAS seems big enough where it might obstruct some some of your view on the drivers side. Of course you"ll have to judge that for yourself.
Yes, it does look like a good mounting scheme. Maybe put a 2m/440 antenna on the driver side since it shouldn't block your view. The ATAS should work well on the passenger side.
Be sure to post pics of the finished install.
You can do it through a computer but you have an older radio with no direct USB connection but it can be done.
You need a 8 pin DIN connector to go from your radio's ACC 1 port and wire it into the computer sound-cards analog audio input/outputs. You'll be able to do both, record any audio off...
To answer your CW question, Check to see if the "BREAK IN" feature is on. It should be found in the settings menu in CW mode. This will put the tone into TX but you still may have to plug in a keyer to TX a carrier tone.
There is FULL and SEMI BREAK IN modes and my Icom-7000 HF radio and also...
