    F4U-4 CORSAIR

Ok, I've heard from my WW II airplane tech. The front post is just that, it supports the wire antenna that is HF (if equipped). The rear post houses the VHF antenna, these post are interchangeable.

Yes, you are correct. The picture in your post shows how much alike those two post are. I'm checking with a CAF friend of mine to find out about these Corsair antennas.

Three People Killed While Erecting Antenna

I was thinking the same thing, like a ham license is going to make you a better antenna erector. I was also wondering what happen, most likely involved electrical lines but you never know. It's always sad when someone gets killed in the line of their hobby.

    F4U-4 CORSAIR

Nice job ! The antenna just forward and to the right of the cockpit looks about like a 5/8 wave for 2M ha ha. Same antenna that’s on the bottom of the nose of a P-38 Lightning. BTW when the HF rigs were used the mode was CW. The P-39 Airacobra was in production before WW2 and if it had HF...

I think you will find this interesting,,,, basically 2 meters ! I'm not 100% sure about the Navy but the Army Airforces used a five channel VHF radio that weighed about 80 lbs! I think I remember reading somewhere the freq range was 130 to 150 mhz. If equipped they had HF also. Nice looking...

    Problem with Uniden Grant

A neighbor came buy wanting me to look at his CB, just says it doesn't work right. Well I got around to opening it up to see if anything was out of place, everything "looked" ok. I hooked it up to a PS, wattmeter and dummy load. Turned it on and it blew the fuse in the power cord. Replaced fuse...

    UNUSUALLY HOT WEATHER

It was a VERY hot and dry year here in central Texas. I live 15 miles south of Austin and I have recorded 7.91 inches of rain this year, that's sad. Average is about 32 inches a year, also Austin had 68 days of 100 or above this year the record is 70 days back in 1920's can't remember the year...
