Hi Cat.... You can crank that thing all the way up to almost 100w dead key...but I wouldn't. It should do 175-200 reasonably clean watts after it's been all gone through. Key it at about 30-35 and let it swing. preacherman

The clarifier unlocked if the radio is properly aligned is a useful thing on ssb. I'm going to speculate that these radios are not the newest ones with the mosfet finals (I've been wrong before :glare:) and if I'm right, I'd say no more than 25w peak output...safer even to estimate 20-22...

It raises the sensitivity about 1.5db and reduces the air noise somewhat. the NB also works better. One man's "big difference" is anothers "not-so-much". preacherman

Way more than it's worth! The tuning part...probably abut $30 for the tune and swing kit. The "bling" part...about what you paid for the radio in the first place. Your call. preacherman

That's really an opinion question. The rci 6300 150 or the Connex 4600 are both going to put out a little more power...but probably not so's someone on the other end would notice. The Styker has a little more "bling". All three can be loud...with probably a slight edge going to the Connex...

There is a recognized ssb quality problem on the 980's with mosftets, but as been posted, there is a fix. I'd send it in and have the fix applied and I think you'll be pretty happy. peace, preacherman

OK...couple of things: First...if the driver and final tubes are OK...it should tune up to 100 watts or more on all bands. 50 watts indicates either that it is not being tuned properly or the finals are weak. If that's the case, it will need new finals and they will have to be neutralized by...

Been looking for a swing mod for this radio. It has a different # on the pc board than the Grant XL's and so if some one can point me to the right resistor to add the 1N4001 to, I'd appreciate it. preacherman

Hey Lords...thank you! I put the radio in the pickup with a small two pill in line...keying 10 and swinging to about 100. (the box, not the radio. Nothing but good reports...guy about 15 miles away said he thought I was on the base. preacher...

Have a Lee I bought used...it had the limiter (r249) clipped. I replaced the resistor,but now swing is quite limited on the low power setting. Looking for the info on how to set the Lee up for big audio and swing. preacherman

Simplist possible answer...get an adapter off of ebay or at a cb shop. Otherwise, get a 4 pin mic plug and wire it into the radio. You just have to keep track of where the audio, ground, ptt and recieve wires go. preacherman

In fact, if a freq counter is real important and you simply must have a Cobra, find a Cobra 148f gtl...has a built in 5 digit counter. Same basic board as a 2000...just a smaller package. preacherman
