It might be an expensive radio, but remember the Connex 4300-300 and 4390-400....people pay some crazy money to get them now. Same for the Magnum S-9. I think I may get one of these. I question though what frequencies does it cover once converted, and what transistors are used in the amplifier...

I've circled the area where it appears there were once some jumpers, or caps or something. Not sure if that's how you set these up to talk and hear elsewhere than 28 MHz or what.

For me, it was from Missouri (me) to Italy (them) on 27.385 MHz (38 lower) we then tuned down to 27.380 and talked a bit to get away from the noise. I had (and still have) a Kenwood TS-2000 and I don't know what they had. The antenna was an Imax 2000.

For me, it was a Cobra 148 on AM only, on channel 19, no amp and into a 102 whip. Talked to a truck driver 14 miles. May not sound like much until you consider he was probably running some short 4 foot antennas. And there was some terrain between us.

The Chinese Cobras are "ok". I had one, a side mic 29 version from 1993. When I sold it, people went nuts over it. But anymore it seems the newer ones are mostly throw away radios, once the golden screwdriver has been in it, and there are plenty of those.
