She might not be very smart but what the judge reacted to was her saying 'goodbye' in spanish.
Nothing wrong with that on the law books.
The judge was 'outa line' at this point.
And I did not see any malice in here tone or her body language before she gave him the finger.

She was an idiot. She acted as if something was funny and refused to answer the judge as to the value of her assets. She said her jewellery was valued at "Like Rick Ross". WTF kind of answer is that? The judge was trying to determine her ability to pay bond as well as determine if she was eligible for a public defender.She should have kept her mouth shut about the jewellery. She came across to me like a smart assed little bitch. Maybe she just wanted to be like Lindsey Lohan. :headbang She got a dose of reality when she flipped the judge off and good for him IMHO. People get away with far too much shit today. Time they started to answer for their own actions and accept responsibility for what they have done.

Looks as though the Judge is Wrong..
Reason being...
The girl did Not say anything Wrong..
Yet the Judge got Annoyed for her laughter..
Really for her Laughter and or because she was Stupid..
Chances are...She was High on the very drug she was accused of having been in possession of and or some other drug..
Or she was in fact Stupid and or Retarted..
What the Judge should have done..
Is send her to be Examined by a shrink and or mental ward.
to determine if she is/was of sound mind and or under the influence of some substance..
Why the Heck should a Judge care if she laughs at him.
Whether she says bye to him in a different language.
Whether she refuses or seems unable to answer the monetary value of her jewelry.
I am Not in any way saying the girl is either of sound mind and or not stupid ( she may well be both stupid and of un sound mind)
Yet there are better places for a Non Violent person who needs help.
So Yes..the Judge was Fully Wrong..
If he was having so bad a day...
he should go home and or retire.
Otherwise perform the job and Judgeship he represents

I agree with a few of your points.
I didn't think bond could be punitive. She did seem to be under the influence of something. Should have been examined medically. Should have said: Adiós your Honor, instead of plain ol' adiós.

Lots of things are not illegal but will get you charged with a contempt charge. Exercising your "right to free speech" aka not shutting up when the judge tells you too is one thing. Not turning your cell phone off is another. It is the judges house and he makes the rules. Show contempt or disrespect in any way and get slapped with a contempt charge. Laughing and refusing to answer his questions is another way. She did both of the latter.
The judge was NOT out of line. As far as saying goodbye in spanish...in case you didn't notice, the judge was hispanic too.
Treating the bail hearing as a joke probably gave the judge the impression she might skip bail since she thinks the whole thing is amusing.
I sat in on some bail hearings and have seen everything, this judge did nothing other judges haven't done.
After being sentenced to 30 days for contempt she sure did act like it was just another day in the hood.
Being Miami is the armpit of Florida, this judge most likely has been disrespected in every way possible.
It is a Judge for Christ sake, the last thing you want to do is act a fool in front of one.
If she had simply said that she had little/no jewelry he may have let it go and she could have posted bond and walked.
She got what she deserved by acting the way she did.
If there ever is a time to act like an Adult it is when in court.

Guilty/Not Guilty and yes sir/no sir or yes your honor/no your honor should be the only things coming out of a defendant's mouth at a bail hearing.
I must say I agree with NOTHING YOU SAID HERE. It's a bond hearing, you act respectful and pleed guilty, not guilty, or you wish time to speak to an attorney. Then you get your bond and leave.
This kind of attitude by our young people can be seen all across the county. If her parents don't teach her any manners then it's up to the judge. That should cool her smart little a$$ off. In 30 days if she still has no manners then she can sit again.
