I think I saw a YouTube video of someone replacing the clock motor. They would buy a device (I forget what it was) and take the motor out to put in the CB. I will try to find it.
From what I understand the 5555+ does not have the noise reduction feature, only the +N does. The N2 also has the noise reduction and should be the same as the +N in that regard.
Welcome back! The Anytone 6666 Pro is packed with features and I believe is the smallest radio with SSB. The Stryker 955 is also made by Anytone (Quixang) and probably has the biggest audio on AM, FM, and SSB, and also does 100 watts out of the box...

I don't believe that they have gone surface mount yet. There is a way to look up the FCC certification that shows the insides, but I couldn't find it. Bells has a picture of the inside of a 29 ltd chrome.

The pin 4 was only a thing on the old radios.
The BC-645 is a great electret mic for these radios. I ran one on my Stryker 955 for a long time. I now use a mic that I modified with an element from a telephone handset. Here is my thread about it.

I would try to put the tip on the tinned resistor lead, and let the heat conduct to the smd part. Maybe set up something to hold the big resistor to make sure it doesn't move. Get in and out with the iron quickly, shouldn't take much.
