[Solved] TRC-465 receive audio is higher tone and some stations are crackly sounding.

I thought I recapped at least one of the TRC-465 radios, but after looking inside, turns out I did not recap it... Oops! And the other radio I did recap sounds ok. The ones that were giving me trouble still had originals in them. I also probably just listened to a bad sounding station...

[Solved] TRC-465 receive audio is higher tone and some stations are crackly sounding.

Hello, I noticed that some of my TRC-465 radios have the same receive audio quality. Stations all sound more treble/higher tone than compared to my Cobra 146 GTL and the Uniden 122. The Uniden 122 sounds great and isnt as high tone on the receive and stations have more lower end audio. The...

President AR144 making no more than 5 watts?

I think the mystery is sorta solved. For whatever reason, it mighta been the potentiometer to blaim. The other radios with similar boards don't even have a mic gain adjustment, and its basically "jumpered" under the board like my Cobra 146 GTL is and the very last Sears Roadtalker SSB mobile...

President AR144 making no more than 5 watts?

For fun I did replace the final since I was going to change out that ceramic piece behind it, and same results as before. Least I do have an original Mitsubishi 1969 final ill just save for another radio. PA mode is loud and clear.

President AR144 making no more than 5 watts?

Hello, The President AR144 I got in a couple weeks ago seemed to be doing ok, but I realized that something wasnt right. Sure enough, the radio is refusing to do more than 5 watts, maybe 6ish watts no matter what mode. AM and SSB the radio wont go passed that. Driver and final Bias were set to...

[Solved] Trying to make sense of this 89 XLR swing mod to use on my 21 XLR

I eventually figured it out, but after the mod, it basically isn't worth the effort or time. Using a 100 ohm resistor was too much as it brough it down too far below 1 watt carrier, so using a 60 ohm 1 watt brough it to a 1 watt carrier. Modulation was a dog so it only got about 4-5 watts during...

[Solved] Trying to make sense of this 89 XLR swing mod to use on my 21 XLR

Hello, I have a 21 XLR I was wanting to try out the swing mod, but I am struggling to make sense of the instructions that I found on an old forum post. This is it: I don't have my 29 XLR radios here with me, but figured the 21 XLR can also be done. As far as cutting the trace, Is this the...

    Cobra 89xlr low TX audio

I thought I had a 29 XLR here, but apparently I dont. It was a 29 GTL that I had here. I found a video on a 29 XLR board, and hoping its somewhat close to what you have.

    Cobra 89xlr low TX audio

Usually its fun going through old Radioshack catalogs and seeing the price of CB radios and then find out exactly how much that was in today's money. There is a website you can see old catalogs. Radio Shack Catalog Archive

    Cobra 89xlr low TX audio

You are well on your way. Enough knowledge from the past it will be like riding a bike again. The 142 Radios I am fond of as that was probably the 1st base radio I seen as a kid. Very first CB was probably the Sears Roadtalker slant face AM radio. (Wasn't the SSB). Take care and enjoy the...

    Cobra 89xlr low TX audio

You got a nice list of radios to work on for sure. :) That 457 is pretty great. I only have the 458 though without the clock. 457 for sure is the better looking one of the two.

Galaxy dx959 mosfet final and driver bias voltage?

Time to time I run into posts that help me on a radio. Used this today on a Galaxy 959 that had some IRF520 MOSFETS. Hope you've been resting easy Rob. You continue to help us all here throughout the years. We all miss you.

    Cobra 89xlr low TX audio

I wonder if there is a capacitor or two that might be going bad. I had a Cobra 142 GTL that had basically no modulation but did have a carrier. Once I narrowed it down, it had a shorted cap. Replacing it brought the radio back. have a look inside to be sure there isn't visible signs of some...
