If you plan on putting a tool box on it, that works well because the antenna can be mounted on it and centered on the truck.
Other than that, a Breedlove stakemount should be rock solid. When I get around to putting my mobile HF on my truck that's the way I plan to do mine. I don't like the...
Nice setup and design. However, the the A index shows different at 5 whereas the HAMQSL that's widely used still shows a very high number of 58. I also see way more activity on PSK reporter.
Very good radio with that hybrid SDR super het receiver. If you have an earlier version where the pop up screen for band selection stays on for only a short time, do the firmware update to resolve this.
I helped a friend do this on his and a made a real improvement. The window stays on for a...
I prefer Kenwood radio's and after owning the TS-590 for a while, I decided to step to the Kenwood TS-890. I like the features, ergonomics, and overall performance. Kenwood is also the only radio manufacturer that includes full rig control software with remote/server capability. Others don't...
Not really much of a hijack, This is worth noting for all reading this thread. The OP did post some pics of the rotor platforms he used that I thought were interesting and I ended up getting a set for my antenna mast because of this thread.
I'll do the same here and offer a suggestion!
If you...
If you put vertical elements on the mast of your current beam, you should take off the 5/8 vertical as you won't need it. Remember, it's the feedpoint height of the vertical antenna (and all antennas) that matters not the overall height of the antenna. You'll have both a 4 element horizontal and...
Those are made in the Philippines not France. Those were the good President radio models during that decade.
This one was a version exported to sold in France.
Why it worked before is a mystery. I missed the part where you said you have a tuner.
Strange why your power level would differ between the 2 bands. Most external tuners have enough tuning range to cover up to an un-tuned SWR of 3:1 or even higher.
What brand and model tuner do you have, Is...
The Anytone Q6666 Pro has a big heat sink too. It's a tight fit just to put the coax connector on/off much less tighten it.
These are small footprint radio's so the heat sink size maybe appropriate but maybe it can be aligned better and not in the way.
I'm OK with the display but I can see...
On thru the hole components like caps on older radio's I find just using a simple solder wick and a 40 watt solder iron works good.
Those solder suckers have their place and I occasionally used them too.
Nice!
I was expecting to see Kenwood replace the mighty 590 with a mid level price radio to compete with the Icom 7300 and the Yaesu FTDX10.
Nothing wrong with the TS590SG but it's been out for years. The current trend is SDR or SDR hybrids with color screens which makes the 590 look...
I have the Icom-7000 which predates the 7100 so I can't say all the power settings are the same. On my 7000, the power settings are global for HF 160-10m but 6m has it's own independent power setting as does 2m and 440. If I tune to 11m it stays the same as the HF settings. I assume your 7100...
Sounds like that shop took care of you. He's been good with me and some others who also mentioned him on this thread.
Always good to get the radio back!
I'm surprised by the your turn around opinion on these.
I still use them both in the shack and mobile with little to no failures any more. I have multiple power pole rig runners and it makes the most convenient way to run power to all my 12v devices. I also use the larger 350 amp versions for...
Your biggest problem is what SP5IT noted, your audio quality is going to suffer because speaker outs are rated in watts and headphone jacks are in milli-watts so you need some attenuation.
Here is a good work around box that will let you select the radio speaker output to go to both an external...
