The way I have done it is to get a potentiometer the same value as the one on the board, remove the factory one and then run three wires to the board. Never had an issue doing it like that.

It sounds to me like the mode switch is broken. That is where I would start.

It lists the 29 GTL, not the 29 LTD. They are different boards.

I would try changing the value of R197 and see where that gets you. It's a 10k ohm resistor hanging out by R244 and TR39. If that's the one then you can just wire in a variable, or just change the value to something more suitable.

That's very curious to me. I've done a number of 148/Grant/2000 calrifiers and the only one I had this issue with was the 2000 (2-3kc) because it had a crystal channel kit in it. When I removed the kit and jumped the PLL the slide jumped up to 10kc each direction.

That's interesting Nomad. In all my years I've never had one fail on me. The one in my 667 that I've had since 1996 still works just fine, and I'm betting that amp is all of 35 years old. I've just had better luck I guess. (I'm not questioning you in the least. Experience is experience.)

My question is are you sure that you are hooking them up in the correct direction? Hooking them up backwards would cause this.

Have you checked the radio with another mic?
