WD, the videos from Dave Tadlock are good I have watched a lot of them. On you antenna a dipole is a good place to start. The most reliable bands right now are 80-40 and 20 meters. 80 m dipole is around 130'. You probably want to hang it north - south that will get you east - west reception...
If you want a easy to put up and use antenna the my antennas EFHW 8010 is great 80-10 meter wire antenna needs almost no tuning and is easily tuned by internal tuners. I talk to BJ and others Ca. to Indy on it with some power and if bands are quiet on 100 watts, at last to Bj anyway. i have...
i second the FT 450 yeasu. Is reasonable great starter radio and good backup if you upgrade later. I have a 857D also a great radio and easily portable.LIke BJ said the 450 can be used mobile also. The antenna is the important part of how well you will do onTX/DX and agree get your general to...
Redbeast, I have all of these antennas and the Sirio was the best. The Sirio came out of the package tuned perfect on my vehicle, I drilled a hole in the center of cab. I could never get the Wilsons as low on the swr, they were usable but not as low as I would have liked. The biggest difference...
Thanks Midnight, I thought it might be something like a hustler BTV antenna. I actually know where there a re two of the CLR2 antennas, I'm sure not still in use.The base is really heavy duty 1/8" thick.
I have a Avanti Sigma 5/8 (AV-170) that I picked up from a guy for taking it down. It has the coil like the one on the left above. When I took it apart to rebuild it the two slugs were destroyed and i had a friend make some for me. I still haven't finished putting it back together but i did pick...
I have hit a repeater at about 115 miles in the mobile with 50 watts not sure if i could have done less. But that being said i was at 6000' and the repeater i hit was pretty hi also. So location was key. Haven't tried simplex much or ssb at yet but will one of theses days.
So if anyone was wondering , I did as John said in the earlier post and oiled the fan and no more noise. I used some synthetic oil I had for the motorcycle now nice and quiet. I also Blew it out while I had the cover off.
Those are all good antennas, i have a tornado , A99. Out camping with the A99 i did great the band was wide open and very low noise , not something i see at home with it. My antenna of choice for 10& 11 meter is my homemade Moxon. The moxon is quieter and has some gain and is very light. I need...
I have the tornado also great antenna for the money. Like 222 said its tunes easily and is very light weight, kind of depends on where you live and how it will hold up. I live in Ca. and the weather is very mild and mine has been up for about three years and still going strong. Now I picked up a...
