With the 100D you'll have to buy the AM filter. The TS50 will work good right out of the box, it has the 4:1 ratio every one likes. Like mentioned above if your looking for that loud (some may say splattering) signal on AM, stick with what you got.
You will get good reports on how good it...
Go to EHam.net and look at the reviews. There is a section for transverters. There is usally a link to where you can get them at the top of the review page.

When did the No code first come out? 1992? I walked into the radio store when they were testing the first batch of no coders. I said I could do that and passed it the same day. Got my advanced 3 months later?

I have one. Had for about 3 months now. Use it mostly for VHF work but modded it and made some 11 meter contacts. I got it for it's size. If you want to go out of band on VHF or UHF try a 706. The 100D has it's limits.

There are a lot of radios that do those bands plus HF. Icom 706MKIIG, Yaesu FT100D and the Kenwood TS2000. They all run off of 12 volts, the Kenwood is more base like but the other 2 are comparable to a CB size radio.
Along with the other radios mentioned, Yaesu makes a FT736 & FT726. Both...
Ranger,
I don’t have a specific answer for you, too many variables. If you’re looking for VHF with FM only most of the major ham brands will do. When I was looking for a ham radio that would cover all of the business frequencies I needed I choose the ICOM 3220H, but that was over a decade a...
If it is VHF there is no standard off set. It is what ever they were assigned. If it is UHF (Under 512 Mhz) then it is 5Mhz. 800 Mhz is 45 Mhz. But then there are always exceptions.

Most of the higher end ham rigs work well out of the box. That is if your doing SSB or FM. If you want that loud AM sound then that is another story.
That TS2000 has so many options on the TX audio, you will spend a few days or weeks tailoring it to the way you want to sound. Go to Kenwood’s...
For the mic gain try them both and see how it goes. I use low for SSB and high for AM.
I would start with the mic for your intermittent TX audio problem.

I might be showing my age, but I used Super Morse. 10 – 15 minutes in the morning while having my first cup of coffee. I went from saying dot and dash to passing the 13 WPM in 2 months. I tried the next level, 18 0r 20 WPM and could only get about half of it. Then I got distracted and never...
I thought it helped a lot. Especially when you are on LSB and some one is on USB. It changes the quality of audio a little, but you can easily select a wider filter from the front panel.

Man it sounds like I’m a salesman for Inrad, but if you check out there website they have the Kenwood newsletter that used to be put out. It has all of the mods and tweaks for them. If there is a ham radio club near you they probably have a library with them in it.
The next time my wife lets...
I checked the site but didn’t see the tuner upgrade Doc mentioned. I have it installed also. I forgot how the tuning used to be. With the upgrade when you tune the knob slow it changes the frequency slower than stock. When you turn it fast it tunes the frequency much faster than stock. This way...
Hey Slim,
It has been a while since I played with my 440, but you can manually change the filter from the front panel in every mode but FM. I got the matched set of filters and it quiets down the rx a lot. You can compare what each one does by turning the knob. I also got the narrowest CW...
There are plenty of them out there. It seems to be the radio of choice for Free banding and no code techs.
Has the mod been done yet if your so inclined?

It’s a little unfair to compare the 2. I’ve been using a TS50 since they came out. I think the TX audio is better on the Kenwood. And you can program 4 functions to use the 4 buttons on the mike. The only thing I wish my 50 had was a built in speech processor.
The ICOM gives you 6 and 2...
