I just scored a nice Turner Super Sidekick today. It hasn't arrived yet. Does anyone know if the 4000B amp IC is mounted in a socket or soldered directly to the circuit board?
Well, the big electrolytic cap just arrived from Mouser today. On my next home time, (I drive a semi) I will start cleaning the vtvm up and replace that cap. The main switch is very stiff and is a bit loose, so I will have to clean and lube that. I hope I don't break the knob when I try to pull...
I am trying to decide which would be better for me. Either a nice used 50mhz to 100mhz analog scope or an inexpensive USB PC Digital scope. I found one package that has a scope, spectrum analyzer and a few other features new on eBay from China. Any opinions?
This thing has a big 16ufd 150v electrolytic that I will replace. It also has a tubular, .047ufd 1600v cap. It doesn't appear to be electrolytic. Mouser has it in stock, so I wonder if I should just replace it too?
Well, I checked it with a power supply and it reads 14.0v matching my good multimeter. I popped the cover and found a leaking C battery (expected). Found a tube not quite seated in it's socket and a few loose nuts. The electrolytics look original but in good shape. I will replace them too. All...
Well, it powers up and deflects like the manual says. I will open it up and clean the switches later. I will probably check all the resistors with a good meter and for sure replace the electrolytics.
Just scored a nice Old Heathkit IM-18 vtvm today. After I recap and calibrate it, I will use it for mostly receiver alignment. Now all I need is a better scope.
If you want to see a forum get rough, check out my brand new forum, www.fedupwithliberals.com. I figure once the antifa crowd and a few others find the site, my potty mouth filter will be working overtime lol
You can use it, but restoring it to new condition will be a labor of love. Mike of Mikes Radio Repair specializes in restoring old stuff. I watched a video of him recapping and refurbishing an old Tram D201. He is very good at it.
I have one of the N2 rangers that came from the factory with the amp VR pots set to 7 volts with the heavy amp draw problem. I have learned that this radio does not respond well to the average "coil stretching, snip n clippers" magic mods. I suspect that if the truth were really known, this guys...
On ssb , there should be no power going out until you speak. To measure power on SSB, you need a watt meter that shows both average and PEP, peak envelope power. 230 watts on average reading meter is about right for an out of box n2. Dead key on AM should be between 70 and no more than 100.
Im messing around with a new cobra 29 and Im trying to just do a transmit alignment from the service manual. To get 4 watts deadkey, I have to take the core of VR14 out to the very last thread, basically too far to leave in. Does this have to come all the way out? Also, are there any bias...
Hey guys,
I picked up a really nice HP 5315B counter the other day. This one is a bit more complicated than my Heathkit IM-4100. It is a 100 mhz counter with the 1Gig option. It has two channels, A and B plus a third BNC connector labeled C 50ohm for the 1gb section. I am having trouble with...
