    Gonna learn code. Maybe

One of the best days ever was when my wife took and passed her code test. I was standing out in the hall listening and knew that she was gonna make it. The hometown of the sender was the same as her's IRL.

    New AME-25 Tower project.

I posted a bunch of pictures to the gallery and also created a web page on the N5ZKK/N5ZXO AME25 radio tower project. http://trolinger.com/david/ame25/tower.html Yesterday I was browsing around google maps and remembered seeing the Google Surveillance Car driving around our small town. Yep...

I tried to braze then solder and finally scraped that idea and used mechanical clamps. Don't know what I was thinking with trying to braze but it was a bad idea. Think I saw it in a video on AM radio tower construction.

Surge protection, polyphaser, jetsream, mfj, diamond, alpha delta. Base of the antennas and then an 2nd at the patch panel in the shack. This one has a ground rod topped with a copper plate from DXengineering. The rod is connected to the tower with the large strap and also to the ground system...

This is an old old push up mast. While the concrete was curing on the tower I dug out the old cabling and also re-worked the ground system. I am trying out a stainless steel sheet to protect from the copper <> steel electron valence problem.

I put ground rods at the base of each guy point. Rods are connected to the extensive ground system that surrounds our city lot.

I told Jane, N5ZXO that I bought a tower that I found on Craigslist. $550 and I didn't have to pay for shipping. Jane said that she thought that towers cost thousands... Hardhat, Harness, Boots, Gin Pole, 2 tower jacks, EHS guy wire, rotator, cable, concrete. And of course there is an antenna...

More cables. Dug up the old cables and placed some hard plastic yard signs on top so that the dogs won't help as much as they have over the past years.

Connected the tower leg to my extensive ground system. The clamp is stainless steel and is from DxEngineering. It allows me to mount a surge protector for the coax and later I added MOVs for the rotator cable.

4 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet including the six inches above ground. Obviously I have never done concrete work before as can be seen by the rebar 'work.'

Forty Meter antenna on a Tower up 40 feet Cushcraft D-40 Yaesu G-450 AME-25 40 footer with a rocket top and 4 feet buried in concrete. The choke balun is new but I moved the antenna from a push up mast that was too close to the house.

Comment by 'John David Trolinger' in media 'Rotator MOVs.jpg'

The crazy expensive rotator protection boxes forced me into a home brew to protect the Yaesu G-450a. I put one of these at the base of the tower and in the shack using $5 worth of MOVs and some stuff that I keep on hand.
