It'll have to do now. I'm not about to buy another iron for just one amp. It's gone too far over budget as it is. I used about 1650uf for the ssb delay after different sources advised between 470uf and 2300uf. I won't try it out for another month or so as I want to install negative feedback at...
Is it okay to use a type 61 ferrite on the choke of the output transformer or should I use a ferrite from a pc motherboard that is designed for supressing rfi?.
Because I'm going to drive it with a cb to tune it up with initially and run for a while. I really don't want to blow up my new ts480 with an unproven amp but I wouldn't feel as bad about losing a 20 year old cb. I had built the keying circuit already and it was putting a dc between the input...
I've had a few radios that gave a high pitched white noise when the volume is down low. I put an 8 ohm 4.44db attenuator in mine copied from a ham site and it cleaned it up a fair bit for me. What frequency of noise is giving you trouble?
I was happy with the results but it's hard to repair the mess I had already made around the pills. My solder is really bad quality that I have had complaints about but so long as I have no shorts I'm good to go. Anyone know what value of cap to use for ssb delay?
Robo I think that book you posted is excellent. It gives everything to do step by step and is easy to read. I've read a lot about antennas and most of it is hidden behind incomprehensible jargon.
I got my 70watt chinese thermostatic soldering iron today Freeshipping Thermostatic Soldering iron MT 3927 70W 220V-in Electric Soldering Irons from Industry & Business on Aliexpress.com so here's a pic of the progress. I had some difficulty sourcing a metal clad 820pf cap so I used this russian...
Hmmm. I guess you don't frequent stalker threads much to give you a better insight in to human behaviour. Don't worry about it. Only law enforcement and insurance companies can run them in the us I understand.
Yea should be. But bear in mind that the pep input you read probably related to max ssb input which could be twice the am pep input. It's all very confusing and I wish I understood it myself. Robb is giving you good advice to not overdrive your TS. They are a nice amp and rather than modifying...
Rather than risk the TS I would hook it up like so CB>KL40>HP202>antenna then see that it's under 20watts(PEP). Then if all is well hook it up like you say. I never had a meter that read PEP. I used just get a deadkey reading that said 4 watts and then whistle to get a PEP reading. Some will...
It's not a preamp, it's a driver amplifier. It won't overdrive the TS if you keep the input drive from the uniden down. If you can't do that yourself or get an amp with a variable power on it you'll have to hire a tech to match the radio power to the amp daisy chain. You don't need the ssb...
Don't do the 2sc2999 mod. Its just a preamp on all the time. That radio doesn't need it. You will be chasing stations with the rf gain knob like everyone does with the president jackson.
If TS says so then it's fine. Though you would have better audio from the kl40 as it has a ssb switch so its probably ab biased. Far cheaper to buy an amp rather than build one. I suppose you could do with a variable power knob on the amp also but I don't see one on any of the low powered models.
If your in that rough of an area to be having that many issues I'm surprised your not having your antennas robbed off the car. Over here it's not so bad with anti social behavior but the general public will rob anything that's not nailed down.
Magmount antennas are a fashion accessory for young...
Thanks for that ghostery link. It made a few sites usable for me that I had given up on because their scripts would hang my browser. Here are the firefox addons I use that I find invaluable for browsing:

You'll want at least a 3 element yagi antenna per band and rotator and tower. Dipoles and doublets are not going to get many reponses when dxing. Also a legal limit linear amplifier and antenna tuning unit rated to handle the legal limit power. Also lots of RG-213 coax and many pl259's and a...
