Only you can know when you are ready. I wasn't sure until the morning of the test day, I went through hamtestonline again and took a few more practice tests and then drove the 2 hours to the testing site. Add a little bit of too much caffeine on the drive and a cool room to test in and I...
I don't think there is, the internal speaker is probably wired in series with the external jacks, so that when an external is used the internal speaker doesn't work. One possibility may be the data jack on the back, its strictly a line out(volume control has no affect) but connecting a recorder...
I was going to suggest buying a mic with a keypad so you can enter frequencies directly, but if you are using HRD for rig control, there isn't much need. Moleculo can probably help you with a lot of the menu settings from his 897. There is also a 857 yahoo group
Is the vertical antenna a GP-6?
Sounds like a clogged radiator maybe coolant passages in the engine, you didn't happen to use two different kinds of coolant, green combined with the red/orange dexcool causes serious problems
My only hopes for a contact now are on weekends until I get a pass before 1200Z when I usually start my drive to work. Still I think my only chance of a voice contact would be a weekend, I can't remember hearing Col Wheelock before 2100Z during the week. Packet might be more fun if I had the...
All I have to say is, if you get the 857D, buy the RT Systems cable and programming software, it will work with Ham Radio Deluxe(the cable) and it makes programming freqs a lot easier. The 857 is a compact mobile all mode rig, with all the menu driven stuff the HRD software makes it a lot...
Actually the wouxun is simple in comparison to a lot of others if the manual was actually in english. The programming software makes it easier. You can download most of the operators manuals online for about any radio made, I doubt any are simple. Your best bet is to go to a local club...
To-Do List
Main mapper to be added similar to DM780 and HRD to include station and award plotting with locator squares etc
It looks like it going to be addressed.
I haven't listened to your recording yet, but I heard you on HO-68 and I think you had a contact with KD8KSN and at least one other station that I don't recall. That sat is really busy on a weekend with both voice and packet at the same time
Then I missed a few good chances with HO-68, they used to list modes of just packet, FM, or linear. It never dawned on me that they would allow packet and voice at the same time. I know there were some complaints from people running packet on HO-68 about voice QRM. Thanks for the info
Unfortunately they are running FM packet right now according to the schedule at CAMSAT
They have an on/off schedule they run by and it may be in linear translator/packet/FM repeater mode.
It has a good footprint and is easy to hear(FM repeater mode), but it has been a while since it has...
I just experienced that this morning after reading about it, the first time I was messing with it I was listening to AO-51 and really didn't notice. But this morning it was obvious in just static and it vanished when I didn't allow HRD to control the radio frequencies. At least the DIN plug...
It seems that the ISS runs packet most of the time, I don't think I've heard voice before 2100Z. Be sure to use Ft. Drum NY after your callsign, I do remember Col. Wheelock mentioning that NY was his home state.
Its impressive, HRD continuously adjusts downlink and uplink frequency and gives the current azimuth and elevation for the sat. I just got the RT Systems USB cable and memory program software for my FT857D. Once I get the audio isolation transformers connected I will actually be able to use it...
What frequency did you try transmitting on? Unless the radio has been modded for MARS ops, it probably won't transmit outside the ham bands. You could try listening to WWV on 5, 10, 15, or 20MHz
