    2950 audio problem

specifically: what is the carrier power with the control turned down completely? What is the PEP? How 'bout with it turned up? At what power level does it clear up? Just trying to get an idea of what's going on here...

    2950 audio problem

Most likely had the super whack and tune. Check (and replace as required) q32, R281,178,194, anything else that is cut or missing with oem values. Retune tx, set AMC to your liking, or 95% with npc/ppe. How low can you actually turn it down too? At what level does it go away? Vince

    COBRA 2000GTL SQUEAL ON RECIEVE

Seen this happen quite a few times with the 148/2000/Grant type radios. Check to make sure that there is no connection between the audio ground (pin 2) and the switch common (pin 4) on the mic plug. Vince

    scr?

I have a couple on hand at the shop here, I could send ya one... I bought mine from Astron, directly, as they were the only company that I could find which actually stocked the part. I'm not sure but I bet they'd ship it overseas. IIRC, price was somewhere around $7-8 USD/ea. ~Vince

Browning MarkIII Transmitter - Meter Problem

I like the idea of the HV enamel, seems like that could be useful in situations like this. I was carefull to take a good look at the rest of the switch, the only other thing I could find was a carbon / corrosion buildup on the rotating contacts. I was able to clean those up pretty nice with...

Browning MarkIII Transmitter - Meter Problem

Thanks for the info guys. It was in fact the mode switch. I was able to scrape and "dig" away at the switch deck enough to disable the path (between the contacts) that had developed. The resistor was ok, and the meter appears to be working normally now, so hopefully she'll last... time will...

Browning MarkIII Transmitter - Meter Problem

I've got a Mark III Transmitter, everything works as it should except when the meter switch is in the "MOD" position. When the switch is set to "MOD", the meter deflects full scale, and the radio will only transmit a carrier, no audio. This only happens when on AM, if the radio is set to...

    Cobra 29XLR No Transmit

I've got a Cobra 29XLR here that has got me confused. I can trace a 27mhz signal all the way to the base of the driver, but nothing on the collector except 12.2v (actually it is reading higher, around 13.4), and the audio. Definetly no rf though. Other than the slightly higher Vce, all the...

    RCI-2970 troubles

I have already replaced the pills, and it didn't make any difference. Also, it could be the relay, but the symptoms really dont point that way IMO. It has to be some parasitic or self oscillation coming from the L or C being outta wack, I just dont know a whole lot about amps to figure it out...

    RCI-2970 troubles

I guess I could have been more specific...sorry... I am not using an external amp, just the stock 2-pill built into the 2970. The radio's dead key (with built in amp powered off) goes from about .4 to 6 watts.

    RCI-2970 troubles

Thanks for the reply, however there is no SWR at all, this is connected to a dummyload. I have tried it with different jumpers, different dummy's, on an antenna, no difference. ~Vince

    RCI-2970 troubles

I've got an RCI-2970 (not dx) that is giving me problems. When I unkey, the amplifier self-oscillates and continues to put out about 7 watts, all the while the radio is in RX. If I disconnect the power to the amp, everything works fine. Any ideas? Thanks ~ Vince
