    Alternators???

We of the Mustang crowd, use unerdrive pulleys to free up some power by slowing down the alternator, and other accesories. I wonder what the added drag of the alternator and the extra load of amp as big as yours, is going to do to your driveabilty and mileage? It may be good for car shows, but...

The LED numbers can be desoldered and replaced The LEDs and instructions are online, if you search them. I have to dash out to work, but just google the instructions and LEDs. The instructions may even be in this forum.

"an old guy with a CB at a gas station" So, they are the experts? Now that's funny!

    In dash CB speaker.

Look at the speaker in the CB radio, and see what the impedance is. Get a speaker of the same impedance, and install it. You don't need a 200W speaker, the CB does not put out that much power. Get a speaker from an auto parts store, just an el cheapo is all you need. The impedance of the CB...

Built in SWR meter not calibrating

This is almost funny! I found this in search, when I Googled frequency counter not working. This is the SAME EXACT radio in front of me right now! I can tell, because you can see a piece of aluminum duct tape covering two holes in the front, just under the tone and voice lock controls. Also...

Built in SWR meter not calibrating

When I read the above, I was looking at notes I took, and the dead key is about 2 watts, swings to 8, which is average. So I got out my soldering iron, again, and started touching up solder joints. I found a couple cold solder joints near the finals, and after touching them up, the calibrate...

Built in SWR meter not calibrating

I have a 2000 GTL I got for parts, but ended up repairing. It works perfectly, except I cannot get the Built in SWR meter to go to calibrate. The switch works, but when I key it to turn the calibration knob, it only moves the needle 1/3 of the way. I am quite sure it was working before I...

Oh Lord what have I gone and done now?

No "smart" phone or such for me. Just a cell phone. I really don't like having that, but it is for work, and those times my kids need road service.

    COAX CHOKE

TVI problems with a neighbor? All TV's have High pass filters, or use cable. It must be an old heirloom TV to overload the circuits. Why not just use a low pass filter? I don't know where you live, but here in Tampa, people run linear s at home without disturbing TV. All TV's are High...

Your first CB? what year started? any other radio interest?

I rmember people drilled holes in the roof to put an antenna on. Or they used a 102" whip with a tennis ball. Usually on the rear bumper to the side, like Andy Taylor and Barney Phife.

The general consensus seems to indicate roger beeps are not well liked. What about a little bit of reverb?

    2000 GTL-part needed...

Well, I put the parts 2000 together, and used the first one for the parts I needed. Everything works, except the SWR meter. The meter itself works, the modulation mode to it has plenty of movement, so the meter is good. I can't get the needle to go up high enough to calibrate the meter to check...

Your first CB? what year started? any other radio interest?

My first, other than Radio Shack walkie talkies, was a Midland 6 channel. You bought it with channel 19, 9, and 14. Then you added 3 more crystal sets. 2 per channel. Then I got a SBE kit, and after that, they added more channels, from 23 to 40. It was easy to get distance, as not many bought...

    2000 GTL-part needed...

I found a 2000 on ebay, that had a bad Freq counter. It got here yesterday. After work, I put the counter from my other 2000 in, and it receives well, and transmits a little weak. I think the finals are about gone, The PA works loud, so the audio chip is most likely OK, so I will put in some...

    2000 GTL-part needed...

Yup, over priced is an understatement. I bought a refurbished one in 1991, from Coppers for $205. Worked perfect with only a minor tune, until a house fire burnt it up.

    2000 GTL-part needed...

I bought a working 2000 on ebay, but it has two holes drilled in the front, and "upper channels" added. The Freq meter has problems, but it is about the only place to get the switch PC board I need. I will have a lot of extra parts, so not so bad a deal. Extra matching knobs, PLL, Transformer...

Coiling the coax cable causing problems....a myth or fact?

Try checking swr with the coax straight, and the coiled. Just for kicks. That way, you know for sure what happens, or what does not happen. Just a suggestion.:bdh:

    2000 GTL-part needed...

It was working fine, until I got to bridging the cut traces in the switch circuit board. But.... I looked on ebay, several times, and even nonreturnable rigs go for over 130 plus shipping. I'll keep trying. I had a hi output, great modulation, and it looks like new.

    10 turn pot clarifier mod

My old, burnt up in a fire, 2000 had a 10 turn. With the Super Diode and 5.7 choke, it seemed like i needed a 20 turn. The radios were busy in DC, so there was a lot of between channel talk going on. Mine had a locking device on it. They are still available online, if you search "vernier pot...
