    2000 GTL-part needed...

I have a 2000 GTL I got from trading. It looks like new, but has been modded by some hack. While returning the radio to specs, I found several traces were cut on the circuit board to the switches on the left hand. I guess it was how the extra channels were switched. Everything works, but the...

    Radium Paint search

We use Tridium on gun sites around here. It glows in the dark, but we are just using a dot. I don't know what the NRC thinks of it, but you can use that instead od the banned Radium.

I built a hot Cobra 29 for a local boy and he blew it up...

Offer to test it on your bench. It may come back up to specs, because his coax is messed up, giving high SWRs. Personally, I would not hook up a radio of any kind, with such high SWRs.

Coiling the coax cable causing problems....a myth or fact?

Coiled wire is a choke. You add inductance, not very good for SWRs.

    Can this really happen?

According to a freind that is a LEO, they have no jurisdiction over Federal law. The case should be nulled. Contact the local FCC, and explain your situation. Put the cop on the stand, and have him testify what he knows about this problem, and ask him when he was certified on radio electronics...

    SQUAWK!

It may not sound right to you, but in the "old days," those were the ones to use, just like I recently found out MOSFETS are being used. My friend the trucker, who I got the radio from, may have had those put in as repair a while back. The radio works fine, so nothing needs to be changed. If...

    attic dipole question

Looks like a great setup. I would ground to earth at the junction, although you could just ground the radio chassis like a lot of my friends do. I am building a dipole by winding 11 meters of insulated #12 wire around a piece of 3/4" PVC. Then, It will be on top of an old camera tripod, ground...

    Clarifier wires on 142 GTL....

Thanks for the leads. I have searched all weekend for the mode switch wiring. I may be able to remove the bottom of another one in a few weeks, to see how the switch is wired. I put Clarifier in the title, I meant Mode Switch. I was a little burnt out, I guess.

    Clarifier wires on 142 GTL....

I tried to make sense out of that same schematic, this past Saturday. I guess I need a picture of another, or a line drawing. Thanks for tying, but there are no colors for the wires or numbers for the switch terminals. I guess I'm hopeless, but not helpless.:confused1:

    Clarifier wires on 142 GTL....

I have an old 142 GTL, that needed a sideband/Am mode switch replaced. (LSB-AM-USB) It was working quite well, until it had a wire tab break off. I have a new switch, but not a schematic. The wires are mixed up. Can anyone tell me where to get a diagram? It has one jumper, so the switch on a...

    SQUAWK!

Fixed I found the problem.:) Somebody must have removed an echo or roger beep, and two gray wires were reversed. On went to the Mic, the other went to the back of the radio. It works OK, just needs a watt or so. I guess I'll change out some resistors. It has 1306 and 1307 finals, not made...

    SQUAWK!

No talkback, Stops squealing with the mic gain down, then it stops transmitting. Stock, non-amplified mic, and tried two other stock mics. May be a diode or cap. somewhere? It is a good looking, stock radio. Dead key with antenna is about 2 watts, swings to almost 5.

    tone control on your d104-m

Hey, all. I'm new here, but here is a trick one of my freinds did. He used an old Fender Stratocaster tone control, in line with the audio wire on the mic connector. Just use the center wire, and the wire soldered to a cap. You then have tons of treble/bass adjustment. You can get them cheap at...

    SQUAWK!

First post. I just got a 148 GTL, in great shape, from a trucker freind of mine. When you key the mic, it sqeals, loudly. The squeal is trasmitted with a strong signal. and also seems come from the board. But, if the radio speaker is disconnected, it does not squeal. All lights and the meter...
