I have a 2m / 440 8.5 foot tall vertical colinear antenna.
If you had to choose:
- 40 feet high, in an oak tree, surrounded by branches and leaves, using RG8x (mini), this will require a 60 foot run of feedline
OR
- 20-25 feet high, on an asphalt single roof, using either RG-214 (basically...
I have owned the megawatt 400 watt unit, the first one I had got taken out by lightning, the seller offered to replace it for the cost of shipping, like $10, like any cheapskate ham I took him up on the offer, , then I later sold it when I sold my first HF rig... the new owner says it is still...
Well... I have been talking about doing this for a LONG time...
So I gutted it, shortened the neck, removed the keying bar, stripped the base...
Now I am faced with a few tough decisions...
1.) Stay with the semi-bushed look on the base? Fully polish the base (lots of sanding and polishing...

it's like there is just not enough adjustment on the preselctor tune, I have to go all the way to the 12-30 Preselector band and all the way counter clockwise on the Preselector just to tune around 25Mhz.. there is no more adjustment for 11m or 10m
any ideas on this?
the good new is the radio
I amreceive above 25MHz... the bad news is it is dead...
I tested the radio at 1.9Mhz by placing the MFJ-259b (with a 4" piece of copper wire) near it and tuning it to match the MFJ, got around s9 + 10
then again same result at 3.9Mhz
a little less on 7.2Mhz
even...
well I got the preselector working alright, its a little buggers but it has full range of movement,
however anything above 25MHZ is pretty well dead, can not hear ANYTHING just really quite static
I talked to my dad about it and he said it 'didn't have it's ears on' when it came to the CB...
still dead as a door nail, I have an antenna hooked up to max trac in my basement and I hit a repeater full quieting
the same repeater on an out door antenna 35 feet in the air can not be heard by the boafeng
I have a Baofend UV5r and it has lost its receive. it seems to transmit just fine... but it barely recieves anything.
I have commonly leave it attached to a large outdoor antenna... I recently read that the is a FET in there that can go bad a little at a time, eventually ending in a deaf...
