get your SWR set first. That will tell you if you have a coax shorting somewhere. It will also let you know if your antenna is tuned.

I tell you what. I have learned alot about communications in the last year since getting my General ticket. I used to just operate 11 meters but now my possibilities for DX are numerous. I spend alot of time trying to make new antennas, matching devices, filters, and so on and in the process...

it's a sooner or later kind of risk. You can drive without a seat belt for years and one day get caught. One day your amp might fry a power supply.

Yaesu Well guys I am a General. I just was wondering what would happen if they came and saw my old Yaesu since it was capable of 11 meters.

If the FCC came to my house and inspected my station would my Yaesu 101b be type accepted and be a legal radio. It has 11 meter capability from the factory.

30, 40, 50 watts with an alignment and tune??? I might have got 2 swinging 30 watts pep with the tommy2watt mods. I sold that radio and some trucker loves it. The 99 has two finals. I never could see how they got 50 watts on a good meter. If it did that many watts i bet it sounded like crap on ssb.

burning Here is an update. I went ahead and swapped rf chokes from my other 101ee and the rig works great, I found an high power transmitter choke in the rf parts catalog. It is 1.8 - 30mhz ceramic choke. I was wondering if i could use it in my 101? It costs about 25.00. I think I will try it...

I kept smelling a burning smell everytime i keyed up on 40 meters. I took the cover off and looked inside the rig while i keyed and i saw some arcing on the choke. Where can i get another choke and what could have caused this? It took a while to get my wire tuned to 40 meters but the swr is 1.4...

I have a 5 element 11 meter antenna on a 26 ft boom. I built a 20 meter aluminum dipole. I was wondering if i could build a reflector for the dipole and mount both elements on my 11 meter boom?
