Is it a factory integral mirror or cab mount? vs. an aftermarket antenna mount purchased at a truck stop or cb shop? If its one of those factory integral mounts I would ditch it and set up my own mount that I know is grounded properly.
I wore out TWO "Smoky and the Bandit" VHS tapes groin up an never missed "Dukes of Hazzard". A CB setup was by next goal after I got my truck.
Yeah I hope Truckers and 4x4 clubs keep the demand high enough that decent equipment will still be manufactured. I'd hate to see CB go...
What causes squealing and how can you remedy this problem? Simple adjustment of an internal pot? What equipment would I need to fix it? I have a watt meter and I can get a dummy load.
Unfortunately this is my first and only SSB radio, so I'm unable to check SSB with another radio. The rest of my radios are AM only.(This actually irritates me as I saved up to get what I thought would be a high end full featured radio, but...)
There are no locals to speak of here...
Any...
Hooked up the MFJ 818 again today and tested the SWR on all modes with the radios SWR protection circuit turned off. Again AM works perfectly. But when keyed with no modulation on SSB the MFJ 818 shows 20 watts forward and 20 watts reflected.
^^ ab v c^^<can not stand it>
ok been away from the computer for a few days...
1 first install was with 10 ga wire straight to battery so I'm thinkin the cig lighter has nothing to do with my problem
2 I know the difference between USB, LSB, and "uppers and lowers" (upper 40 and lower 40 from cb band)
3 actual SWR...
:mad:Bought a new Stryker SR-955 and I believe somthin aint right. AM works perfectly. SSB has a seemingly intermittent problem. When I key up on AM my SWR is showin 1.1:1 But when switched to upper or lower sideband the SWR pegs across the meter to the "infinity" mark and the "high SWR...
I have my Wilson 5000 antenna in the middle of my ext cab pickup roof and want to mount another antenna tuned for 160 MHz (18 inch?) behind it. How far apart do these antennas need to be, or does it really matter that much? The 160 MHz will be for recieve only.
OK, sounds good. I wasn't plannin on pushin more than 150 watts through it anyway. I kinda figured the 5000 Watt power handling was when the antenna was used in a hard mount situation anyway. When I fugure out how to drop the headliner and fish the coax through without breaking and snapping...
Had a very similar problem.... Over time my SWR got better and my broadcast got worse. Turns out I had water and moldy lookin stuff under the outer layer of insulation (and who knows how deep) on my coax. Replaced the coax and all was well again.
Just met someone with a Colt 485 Black shadow ssb radio. Thought if I could dig up some info I could make him an offer on it. Right now all I know is that it was made in Japan and the lot number is 30000330. No date of manufacture is labled on the unit. No idea if it transmits or even powers...
Probably been covered before, but...
Whats the general agreement about the maximum amount of power that can be used with a Wilson 5000 MAGNET mount? That is before damage to paint finish, or to any equipment, or anything??
It's mounted to the center of the cab of an 2001 Ext. Cab GMC
AWSOME!!! Now I know I'm not the ONLY guy that did it!!
Pretty much did the same exact thing bout two years ago and my cobra 29 hasnt had a hiccup yet...
When they had Uniden building their stuff, it was hard to beat IMO.--Robb
I remember hearing that the Cobra29 and Uniden PC78 were the same radio....same for the Cobra 25 and PC68...was that true? Still true? Ever true?
:confused1::confused1:
So, here's a thought. I've seen a few homebrew dipoles use mobile antennas (ex. Firestik KW5) as the ends of the dipole. A dipole constructed in this fashion should have both ends (the hot and the cold end) balanced, or the same electical length, right? What if you were to keep the electrical...
Thinkin about ditching the Wilson 5000 mag mount on my 01 ext cab GMC and drilling a hole in the top of the bed rail and mounting a 102" whip bout a foot from the rear of the bed. (6' 6" bed length) For a lower overall height can I use something non-conductive (probably nylon bailing twine) to...
So the best place to connect your power wires for your radio (100 watt) is directly from the battery. Do both (positive+ and negative-) cables need to be connected directly to the battery terminals, or can the Negative(-) be connected to a good chassis ground? I found 10ga stranded married...
So fa,r I've never had or heard of good results with an aluminum tool box, but a steel toolbox may work better. As for mounting it on the bed rail, wouldnt that have possible propagation problems? Wierd gain?
